LONGMAN ROAD PROJECTS
PROJECT MILESTONE: Bruce Highway, Bribie Island Rd to Steve Irwin Way (Exit 163)

Great news for anyone who has been stuck in traffic heading to or from the Sunshine Coast.

Construction work to widen the Bruce Highway to six lanes between Caboolture and Beerburrum is set to begin before Christmas. The project also includes upgrading creek crossings at Lagoon, King Johns, Six Mile and Beerburrum Creeks.

This $662.5 million project is jointly funded by us ($530m) and the State ($132.5m). It will be delivered as two contracts: One between Bribie Island Rd and Pumicestone Rd; and the second between Pumicestone Rd and Steve Irwin Way (Exit 163).

Both stages should be completed in early 2023.
 
WORK BEGINS: New Settlement Rd Bruce Highway Interchange

Major work on the new overpass at New Settlement Rd/Deception Bay Rd has begun.

Initial works will include construction of site accesses, fencing, installing roadside barriers on the highway and reducing the speed limit to 80km/h on the highway through the project area.

There will be temporary traffic changes in the area with reduced speed limits, road shoulder and lane closures, minor detours, changes to traffic flow and other short-term traffic disruptions.

The $163.3 million upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian ($130.64m) and Queensland ($32.66) governments. The project, which will be similar to the Boundary Rd overpass, involves: 
  • Replacing the existing two-lane bridge over the Bruce Highway with two new parallel bridges;
  • Upgrading the two intersections either side of the interchange;
  • Increasing the length and capacity of existing entry and exit ramps;
  • Providing better and safer access for pedestrians and bike riders 
Construction is expected to be completed in early 2023, weather and construction permitting.
NEW TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT GRAHAM RD/LOMANDRA DRV MORAYFIELD EAST
 
The Federal Government is delivering safer local roads through the Black Spot program and is investing $703,000 for new traffic lights at this intersection.

The traffic lights are 100% funded by the Federal Government.

The project was nominated by Moreton Bay Regional Council due to a history of serious crashes at the intersection. There is a history of vehicles travelling west in Lomandra Drv failing to give way to vehicles travelling south in Graham Road, often due to visibility restraints. Traffic lights at this intersection will address these concerns.

Main Roads says the project should be completed in April 2021.
MEDICARE AND CENTRELINK SERVICES ON BRIBIE ISLAND
 
  • Bribie Islanders have told me they want to have direct access to Medicare and Centrelink services on the island.
  • For the past six months I have been working with Minister Stuart Robert to get these important services via an agency on the Island, and will continue to do so.
  • Once funding is secured, this will save residents travelling to Caboolture and ease demand on the Caboolture branch.
IN BRIEF: LOCAL LONGMAN NEWS
  • Energy prices are continuing to fall under the Morrison Government. According to the Australian Energy Regulator’s (AER) Wholesale Markets Quarterly Q3 2020 report, wholesale electricity and gas prices during the third quarter of 2020 dropped to levels not seen since 2014 and 2016 respectively.
  • I am supporting Moreton Bay Regional Council's call to the State Government for a Priority Development Area (PDA) to be declared over the North Harbour Marina precinct at Burpengary East to fast-track development. It is crucial for our community, especially with the economic impacts of COVID-19, that red tape is cut on job creating projects like this so they can progress as soon as possible.
  • The Broadcasting Services Amendment (Regional Commercial Radio and Other Measures) Bill 2020 has passed Parliament. This Bill provides significant red tape relief for regional commercial radio and television broadcasters, like 101.5FM which is based in Caboolture.
  • The Beachmere Water Tower will be painted under Unitywater’s Community Artwork Program. The water tower design will be decided in consultation with the community, much like the recent work done on the Caboolture water tower on King St.

Local business is the soul of our community and I’m proud to support the Go Local First campaign.

Small businesses create jobs, donate to local charities, and support local sporting clubs.

Supporting small businesses through the current crisis and beyond is vital to help deal with the economic challenges facing the country.
BETTER MOBILE COVERAGE FOR BEACHMERE
Beachmere residents will have better mobile phone coverage thanks to funding from the Federal Government's Mobile Blackspot program.

Telstra recently completed the installation of a small cell mobile base station to address an issue where some residents, particularly in the Beachmere Sands community, were feeling isolated because they could not contact friends and family.

I have been fighting to resolve this situation and with help from Minister for Regional Communications Mark Coulton, I'm delighted that Telstra has now completed the new infrastructure.
MOBILE OFFICES - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 2020
Thanks to everyone who came out to meet me at my recent mobile office events in Bongaree, Sandstone Point and Morayfield. State LNP candidates Kerry Petrus (Kurwongbah), Fiona Gaske (Pumicestone) and Phil Carlson (Bancroft) also attended to answer questions relating to any State Government inquiries.

We fielded a lot of inquiries on matters including health, superannuation and more and provided information on a whole range of government services. It's always good to hear about your concerns and ideas about how we can make our community an even better place to live.
