What a week, what a year. The drawn-out election results, that culminated on Saturday in celebrations all over the globe, felt like the first moment of pure collective joy this year.

While we know that there will be no immediate, and material, systemic change once the handover of power happens, what cannot be underestimated is the psychological weight that has been lifted. A sense that something really catastrophic was averted. I know, I know, it's not over yet but a small glimmer of hope goes a long way. This win belongs to Black organizers, and Black women in particular, and acknowledging that feels necessary, wherever we go from here.

Watching

The Queen's Gambit on Netflix seemed so promising, and I tried to love it. But it was slow-paced and filled with tired tropes. The only bright spark was Anya Taylor-Joy's understated performance, and maybe that it contained the story to a limited anthology series.
