CEFAS 2020 PELTIC Survey
Two of our intrepid volunteers, Peter Howlett and Morgan Schofield, have been aboard this year’s CEFAS PELTIC Survey. Peter is an old hand at this, with this being his fourth year, but it’s a first for Morgan.
Overall, this is the eighth year MARINElife surveyors have been on board the CEFAS Endeavour as part of the survey. Their job is to record cetaceans and seabirds, although any large surface vertebrates such as Tuna, Ocean Sunfish, Basking Shark, or turtles, get recorded too.
This year's 35-day survey covered transects spanning the English Channel, around the Isles of Scilly, the eastern side of the Celtic Sea, Bristol Channel, and Cardigan Bay. Whilst the main aim of this survey was to assess fish stocks, water and plankton samples were also taken.
You can read all about Peter and Morgan's voyage over on our Facebook page, where they've provided regular updates and plenty of pictures of all the fantastic wildlife they've seen, so be sure to check them out.
