Opinion

Hello <<First Name>>,

Joe HydeWe aren’t going to shutdown restaurants and bars. Although if you live in New Mexico, “Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday said her administration will ban dining at restaurants and order the closure of salons, gyms and other “nonessential” businesses in New Mexico,” reported the Albuquerque Journal. I wouldn’t plan any trips to that state for the next two weeks. This is bad for the U.S. economy when entire states cannot go to work in the hospitality industry.

For San Angelo, the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations needs to stay below around 85. We are at 63 with 12 in ICU as of today’s report. El Paso is a disaster, however. I learned second-hand that a doctor working at a Las Cruces hospital said a vast number of the patients hospitalized are from across the US-Mexico border in Juarez.

Here is where to watch our Trauma Service Area K COVID-19 hospitalization percentages.

On the heels of these new COVID shutdowns, U.S. Supreme Court Justice said, “the COVID-19 pandemic had led to "previously unimaginable" curbs on individual liberty, singling out restrictions on religious events,” reports Reuters. Churches are shutdown and no one seems to care. But the biggest threat to our liberties is the erosion of freedom of speech.

Copy and paste this statement into your social media status: “Marriage is a union between one man and one woman” and you’ll see what he means.

And now, the news that is not being reported…

As a hope for a Trump win fades in many minds, the theory I told you about the voting machines last email has morphed into denunciations of Dominion Voting Systems. The company has transformed its website into a FAQ denying all allegations. Did anyone short their stock?

If you are following the vote systems hacking story, attorney Sidney Powell is the one to watch. She was on Lou Dobbs today and declared her scorched earth effort to expose the irregularities caused by Big Tech (watch here).

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Texas turned down a Dominion Voting Systems proposal for our state. “If the software was designed for an airplane, I would not advise you to get on it,” Patrick told Sean Hannity.

None of this will likely matter, however. Joe Biden will be declared the next president and we will have institutionalized voter fraud on a mass scale into our country.

Latest Rants

sanglo expat, Fri, 11/13/2020 - 17:24

Sir:

I find your post amusing.  I am afraid of nothing other than the damage that arrogant, horribly  juvenile creature stinking up the Oval Office is doing by childishly refusing to admit he has been defeated.  He is harming his party, admittedly a sycophantic gaggle of cowards and fools, and the country as a whole.

You are correct in stating he has the right to launch these bogus investigations and lawsuits into what he claims are events that have deprived him of victory.  You are wholly wrong in thinking he SHOULD do it.

It is clear, according to all verifiable evidence, that Joe Biden kicked Trump’s bulgy butt.  No verifiable evidence exists to the contrary.  With every passing day more Republicans are accepting the truth and saying, “Let’s gut up.  Trump lost.  Let’s move forward.   Let’s serve the country.”

Joe Biden grabbed more than five million more votes than the Poser-In-Chief.   While I understand that the Electoral College, an anachronistic thing that needs to go, does not determine who the winner here is, five million voters more in favor of Joe Biden cannot be ignored.

Trump is a self-serving fool.  He has done nothing of value to the country in the past days, and contents himself with crying and moaning and, of course, playing golf… and likely cheating at that.  We have an enormously serious problem with Covid-19, and Trump is absent.  Gone.  Not there.  Biden is moving forward, as a true leader should do, while Trump and his worthless tribe do and say the valueless things they always do.  They contribute nothing to a transition that they know will take place and in the past has been handled by people with far more grace and concern for the country itself.

I know people who have supported Trump in the past, and for some of those I hold respect  because of the nature of their opinions.  I CANNOT respect anyone who thinks Trump should be doing what he and his political whores are doing now.   He continues to demonstrate he is wholly unfit to have occupied the office.

By the way, I voted for Reagan and Bush 41, so I am hardly a diehard leftist.  The party left me; I did not leave it.  I yearn for the days when saner minds regain control of the party, but I don’t see that’s happening anytime soon.

Enjoy January 20, 2021.  It will herald a better day for this country.

I see MeMe didn't learn a…
Cajun Texan, Fri, 11/13/2020 - 09:58

I see MeMe didn't learn a damn thing while SAL comments were down. Screams revenge killing??? Where's the evidence to support that assumption? What do 2 month old babies do a lot? Give them an opiate based narcotic known as a serious depressant would certainly put a stop to all that noise.             I'm aware you enjoy playing the devils' advocate and argue that everyone is innocent, but those parents sedated that infant to death so they could enjoy their high without all that squalling.                      Too bad public hangings aren't used anymore.

Well,
ME Someone, Fri, 11/13/2020 - 06:30

Innocent until proven guilty is a foundation of our legal system. Just because they were arrested does not mean that they are guilty. I am not defending anyone, it is just that too many people jump to conclusions before a trial has even started, and it is not right.

Dr. Blanc
TXHeart, Thu, 11/12/2020 - 20:11

This is a damn shame! Dr. Blanc was my doctor and my late mom’s. He is one of the most professional and personable people I have had the pleasure of knowing! So I guess we will take what Shannon gives us. Shannon is not off to a good start! Thanks Dr. Blanc for being a stand up guy! San Angelo is losing a good doctor and man!

I bet,
ME Someone, Thu, 11/12/2020 - 18:49

I bet someone else killed the kid to get back at the parents, because they didn't pay a debt or something. Trust me, if drug addicts want to kill there own child they don't "waste" their drugs on them, they just drown it or something easy. This just screams revenge killing to me, and the heroin being used screams "message" to me.

Wow wtf is wrong with people…
Kasey Richardson, Thu, 11/12/2020 - 18:44

Wow wtf is wrong with people and Cristin Bradley has somewhat of a smirk on her pathetic low life face!!! It makes me sick to my stomach to even think of how this poor baby felt. Then the boyfriend said they went to  rush their teeth. Really they went together to brush their teeth like it's a family tradition or something what a piece of s**t and where the hell was the herion wh**e mother when they went to brush their teeth.  Poor baby one of Gods most beautiful gifts.  Rest in perfect peace baby girl your in loving arms of our heavenly father now

I truly hope Shannon Medical Center will find a way to work with Dr. Blanc so they excellent care he has provided to my 86 year old mother and so many other people can continue.  I accompany her to each appointment.  Dr. Blanc is one of the few physicians that remembers his patients and spend more than 3-5 minutes in the room with them.   He always has a smile on his face and is willing to meet any need my mother has.  Love you Dr. Blanc

Capitalism doesn't kill
skydave, Thu, 11/12/2020 - 07:59

I think you are confused. What you are seeing is the opposite of capitalism. You're seeing a preview of socialized medicine/single payor. Capitalism would bring more providers and more competition. What Shannon has done is eliminate competition and create a monopoly where no one has to care about anything but revenue. Physicians are not rated by the care they give, their success rate, their patient feedback. They are rated by the amount of money they bill.
Over the past few years I've watched Shannon turn from a great hospital with compassionate care to a profit-centric money grabbing poor excuse for medical care. I started going to Austin last year and will go anywhere but Shannon.

You failed to include in…
Opus Croakus, Thu, 11/12/2020 - 07:15

You failed to include in your report that Dr. Shiva failed in his bid for the Republican ticket in the US Senate election in Massachusetts. He claimed fraud in that election as well. Just like Trump, if he doesn't get his way he claims fraud.

Until there is a non-partisan group that can show, with verifiable evidence, that there was election fraud on a scale that would change the election, this is all conspiracy theories. Nothing more.

What are you worried about?
Jim T, Wed, 11/11/2020 - 21:51

What exactly is it that you fear about the Trump campaign investigating election fraud?  If there was none, there's nothing to worry about.  Contesting something....anything...is the American way.  Unless of course you follow socialists communists values where you don't believe in the rights the US Constitution affords you?  Hillary Clinton never accepted her loss to Trump. She just worked for 4 years, with a large majority of "Democratic" leadership and other members of the establishment to delegitimize and ruin the lives of Trump, his family, friends, and associates.  You've got something to hide.  Otherwise, you shouldn't care about anyone proving a process of any kind was legitimate.

Hmmm,
ME Someone, Wed, 11/11/2020 - 20:13

I guess the game rooms refused to cut the police and the judges into the action, so the police are going to shut them down. Figures that republican Texas would take away peoples businesses like that, they always do what they say they won't, let this be a lesson to anyone wanting to open a business here.

Pure fiction...
sanglo expat, Wed, 11/11/2020 - 20:11

Regarding the "Widespread voter fraud" nonsense...  As the dude dealing with the election in Philadelphia (a Republican) said to those buying into this garbage, "There are bad actors out there and they are lying to you."  True that.

Well,
ME Someone, Wed, 11/11/2020 - 17:05

your opinion is not important. the truth is important.
Beccab, Wed, 11/11/2020 - 15:27

actually and fortunately your "opinion" does not matter. there was widespread election fraud and cheating and that much is obvious. time will tell.  trump voters are facing the facts. there was widespread cheating and the continued attempted coup.

Shannon and doctors
j j, Wed, 11/11/2020 - 11:53

I am a patient of Dr. Blanc at Community (now Shannon South). I was first a patient of the "twins" when they first arrived in San Angelo at Community. They left for Shannon shortly afterwards and I become a patient of Dr. Blanc.  Having been treated by both, I found that Dr. Blanc was a much more seasoned and common sense provider, I got much more complete treatment from him than the others mentioned.  Dr. Blanc is a very good doctor and good people (whether friends, doctors or teammates) no matter what they are doing are missed. Shannon, you are making a big mistake by failing to value such a valuable professional. Thank you very much Dr. Blanc.

I bet,
ME Someone, Wed, 11/11/2020 - 10:04

Dr. Blanc said that they fired him because "he didn't meet their long term goals", I guarantee that they didn't want to pay him what he is worth, so instead of forking over the money to pay one of the best doctors in the area, they will simply find someone less qualified and at half his previous salary. This isn't the last or only time this is going to happen, it will continue as the new owners seek higher and higher profits over the services they provide. That's capitalism for you, and people say capitalism never killed anyone, HA!

Shannon take over
Christopher Giroux, Wed, 11/11/2020 - 07:54

Now that Shannon is the only choice for medical care in this area they have started dismantling the other hospitals cardiovascular Dept. The cardiologist at Shannon killed my father last year after preforming a simple surgery to repaire a possible aneurysm. 5 days later my father was dead. He was in good shape and should have had many more years with us. I would never go to Shannon for medical care but now I have no choice but to

drive to Abilene. Thanks Greg abbot for screwing with my medical care!

Dr. Vretis' projections
lizbetigan, Tue, 11/10/2020 - 07:16

Comment

San Angelo Live totally missed the point of Dr. Vretis' projections; you also missed some of the math. Nevertheless, this is not a time to cast doubts or aspersions on Public Health Medical specialists. It's just another way to put down and diminish medical information on the coronavirus disease. I have hung in there with this so-called news outlet for a while now, but you've lost me on this story. The coronavirus disease is awful enough and often lethal without anyone developing any doubts on the information that we are receiving. You didn't spare one line to consider how it was that the projections did not manifest themselves, could you have given Public Health and the San Angelo public some credit for jumping into action to bring down hospitalizations?  So done with San Angelo Live!

A virus so deadly most get sent home to recover, so deadly you don’t know you have it, or had it, unless you get tested. If masks worked, why the rise in cases? If so deadly, with rise in cases, where is the corresponding rise in deaths? Why has the CDC really stopped collecting/reporting data on the 2020-21 influenza season? Public health “official” - quit giving these fear mongers air time.

Love your columns!!
JoAnn Turner, Mon, 11/09/2020 - 17:27

I am sure you suffer the "slings and arrows of outrageous indignation"!! Of course the only ones that sling the are the ones who can't argue with facts only feelings!! Keep up the good work!!!

Strict measurements to be taken
Bettyleon, Mon, 11/09/2020 - 17:01

With open bars and restaurants you cannot prevent to fill the icu beds. You have to ask governor for more strict measurements of wearing masks everywhere, grocery shopping different times for customers above 50 years old and below 50s. Bars to be closed, restaurants to stay on delivery and take out. Look what is happening in Europe with the lock downs ( France, England, Germany, Italy, Greece)!

I don’t get it!

Somebody PLEASE explain to me why so many morons are lining up to get their brains scratched!

ME Someone, Sun, 11/08/2020 - 13:30

Luckily we got rid of trump, a climate change denier, and will put someone who actually knows what they are doing in the White House and can help fight climate change.

Covid-19 record
lizbetigan, Sat, 11/07/2020 - 08:21

It seems like no lessons have been learned and now babies are getting sick, too. If we are not more careful, there are going to be a lot of empty seats at the dining table on Thanksgiving. Some of them won't be coming back.  Can't we as a city just beat this thing? Go to the ER if you have a cough because those droplets travel more than six feet. Otherwise don't congregate, keep six feet between you and someone else. Always, always wear a mask outside your home. Rethink having people in to visit; use your yard or patio for social occasions with family members. This virus is deadly and invisible and it will last a long time, so pull your boots up and get in the saddle on this.

Department of Energy
Knuckles Malone, Fri, 11/06/2020 - 15:38

Well, well, well, the Department of Energy, formerly headed up by former Tx Gov and idiot, James Rick Perry.  I guess he did all the damage he could, then split for his new job on the board of directors for Energy Transport Co.  The chickens have come home to roost!

Why not
Jeff L, Fri, 11/06/2020 - 06:44

Release a study on what we think of her??? It wouldn't be good, I can confirm that.

Hmmm,
ME Someone, Thu, 11/05/2020 - 18:53

If they did that then your taxes couldn't go into the pockets of the people who run the city and their buddy's businesses that they contract. Think of the poor millionaires!

Mayor
Sheylan, Thu, 11/05/2020 - 15:00

The mayor needs to quit worrying about the SAPD and get our freaking streets fixed!  It's  embarrassing that our pretty little city has the streets of a third world country!  My property taxes go up every year and still the roads are deplorable!

How Evil
CGM5, Sun, 11/01/2020 - 07:37

Oh, those evil trump supporters driving around with their flags flying like they believe they have a right to do that! How low will they go? Next thing you know they will be rioting in the streets, stopping traffic, trashing neighborhoods, destroying property, setting buildings on fire, threatening and even killing people who would dare oppose them and attempting to kill cops.

Trumpy train
