Celebrate the Presentation of Our Lady
Missa Cantata, featuring the Schola Sancti Joseph
Saturday, November 21 at 10:00 AM
Tradition has established that the parents of Our Lady, Sts. Joachim and Anne, presented their holy and treasured child in the temple where she lived a consecrated life dedicated solely to God.
This time of solitude prepared her for her eventual nuptials with St. Joseph and the announcement of the angel Gabriel that she was to be the Mother of the Messias.  November 21st, the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lady in the Temple, is especially celebrated by female religious orders, women who have dedicated their lives to God eventually solidifying that commitment with vows, in imitation of Our Lady.
Resources for the Season of Advent
As we anticipate Advent looking very much like the past six months, please consider looking into the following resources as we approach the season of Advent in a couple weeks:
  1. Meditations for Advent
  2. Waiting for Christ - Advent and Christmas Reflections by Cardinal Newman
  3. Little Books - The popular "Little Books" can be ordered directly from the website at littlebooks.org. They are available in paper and ebook formats. You can also get all the seasonal books on the Little Books app available for iOS and Android devices. To learn more about the app, go to littlebooks.org/app
Advent Vespers
Join the clergy of the parish for Vespers (EveningPrayer) each Sunday of Advent at 4:45 PM. The liturgy will be live-streamed and programs will be uploaded for digital viewing.

Vespers will be live-streamed and the homily will replace the "Sunday Catechesis with Fr. Capuano throughout the course of the season.
Upcoming Advent Retreat - Praying through Infertility
4-6 December
Angel Tree at St. Joseph Church
Advent is next weekend. It is time to begin thinking of how we can help to make Christmas a little merrier for those who need our help!  Because of COVID restrictions, however, this year our Angel Tree will have to be done in a different way. Anyone interested in helping to organize this effort should contact drobinson@sjcpetersburg.com today.
Please note:
As universities close for on-site learning prior to Thanksgiving break, we will be hosting two seminarians immediately following the holiday. Please be on the lookout for seminarians Deacon Tom Lawrence (Theological College, CUA) and Ian Grosskopf (Mount St. Mary's, Emmitsburg) around the parish. They will be staying in the rectory until the end of the semester in early December.

Preparation for the Reception of Spring Sacraments
First Penance/First Holy Communion: for second grade children. Classes to prepare for this sacraments are being held during the religious ed hour. Children enrolled at St Joseph School are not required to attend religioius formation. A practicum session, taught by Father Capuano and required of all students desiring sacraments in the spring, will be held December 12 in the Parish Hall from 11:30 to 1PM. If you have a second grader you have not enrolled, or if you are enrolled and you cannot come to the practicum, please contact drobinson@sjcpetersburg.com

Confirmation: The High School religious formation class, taught by Father O’Reilly and Miss Celia Brockway,  is serving as the vehicle for confirmation instruction this year. This class meets every other Sunday in the parish hall at 12:45. Confirmation is for those who have been baptized and  are at least 15 years old and in the 10th grade. If you wish to register your child for this sacrament, please contact drobinson@sjcpetersburg.com.

Christian Initiation for Children of Catechetical Age (CICCA): For children over the age of 7 who have missed any of the sacraments of initiation, including baptism, we have a new class beginning soon. If life got in the way of your child receiving sacraments with their agemates, please contact drobinson@sjcpetersburg.com.

Exploring Catholicism (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults): For adults who need sacraments, we have an excellent class taught by Brian Wood which meets in the parish hall at 9:45 each Sunday morning.  This class is open to anyone who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith, but also serves as the primary vehicle for adults to prepare for sacraments.  If anyone in your household needs to complete sacraments, or if you just want to go deeper in the faith, please contact drobinson@sjcpetersburg.com
