Dear LCTC family,

I hope this finds each and every one of you safe, healthy and strong. It is no great shock or surprise that the uncertainty of when theater can come back is one of the great stresses we all have in our lives right now. Knowing this, we would like to take some time to update you on the standing of Left Coast Theatre Co. during these unprecedented times.

You may or may not have noticed that we have been rather quiet over these last few months. I want to assure you all that this is NOT a cause for concern. After making attempts early in the pandemic to engage our audience with online readings and content, it became clear to us that our audience base is not incredibly reactive to online content. While I applaud our friends and fellow artists for putting out some really fantastic content these past few months, it is our opinion that perhaps many of our theater going patrons have been exhausted by online content, and unfortunately online creative content is not one of the strongest tools in LCTC’s wheelhouse. For us to successfully produce something new and fun for our audience, the leadership team cannot guarantee the gains would outweigh the costs.  We know that LCTC succeeds and flourishes as an in person, live theater company. We dazzle, we charm, we shine when we are in the same room with our audience, so with that in mind we have to have confidence in this as our strength.

All this being said, Left Coast Theatre Co. is not going anywhere – we are simply on pause. The leadership team is working hard on plans that would, in theory, kick into effect once we know it is safe to gather again in person. Perhaps not in the traditional sense we are used to, but in person and safely, nonetheless. We know this might not be for a while, so we haven’t ruled out the possibility for light engagements here and there, it just isn’t our main focus at this time.

All of us on the Board and Steering Committee want to thank each and every one of you for your support and understanding during these unprecedented times.
