Fall 2020 workshop success!

Our fall virtual resource workshop "Drum, Move, Play" with Sherryl Sewepagaham was a huge success! We had over 200 participants from across Canada join us in this unique project, making this one of our most successful workshops to date. Thank you again to Sherryl for sharing your beautiful music with all of us! We hope you have enjoyed sharing this music with your students in your music classes.

We had many requests to purchase this amazing resource after the workshop closed. Sherryl has agreed that we may sell the workshop resource online in the Alberta Orff Chapter boutique. Proceeds will go to build up our scholarship funds (more information on that soon).

"Drum! Move! Play!" is now available on the Alberta Orff Chapter website for $40. Purchase your Workshop Resource here.
January 2021 workshop change

Change of plans! We were planning to have Jody Stark join us as our presenter for our workshop in January 2021. Due to travel restrictions, we will postpone this workshop to a future date when we can welcome Jody in person with all of us.

Get ready to sing, move, and play to the music of sunny Namibia and South Africa with Garth Prince and special guest, Sokhana Mfenyana. They will share background information, pronunciation, dialect and language explanations to accompany each song. Join this interactive video workshop resource complete with lesson ideas and google slides ready to use with your students while you bring African music and dance into your classroom! Professional recordings will include movement and dance instructions, African calls, drumming patterns, teachings and Orff accompaniments.

Enjoy Garth’s special rendition of Dumela that was arranged for children participating in the Carl Orff Canada Vision 2020 Opening Ceremonies. Learn a spectacular performance piece from start to finish with complete Orff orchestration, movement, vocal harmony and drumming patterns! Experience teachings directly from Garth Prince to bring "Grazing Back Home", a story-performance by Tololwa M Mollel and music by Garth Prince alive in your classroom!

On Saturday, February 20, 2021 beginning at 12 PM PST/1 PM MST, join the Alberta and BC Orff Chapters as they host a live zoom panel discussion called "Black Experience: Best practice approaches to including African music in the music classroom" with Garth Prince and special guests Kathy Robinson, Kofi Gbolonyo and Dawn Pemberton. This will be a fabulous discussion that you won't want to miss!!
