Dr Sofie De Meyer founded Maldi-ID, which provides a faster, cheaper way for famers to identify and ensure that they have the ideal kind of nitrogen fixing bacteria on their legume roots, reducing the need for fertilisers. Maldi-ID was the youngest company to be selected for the 2018 round of the Harvest program.
Two years on and Maldi-ID have extended micro-organism identification to bacteria, fungi, yeast and insects for farmers, medical practitioners, the food industry and researchers.
Last year, Sofie received a 40Under40 Award recognising leading business entrepreneurs, and also received the 40under40 Woodside STEM Excellence Award. Later that year she attended World Agritech summit in San Francisco where she joined the Austrade USA mission including visits to Brazil and Argentina . www.maldiid.com
