WHAT'S THE WORD ON THE STREET?

HELP WOBO MOVE FORWARD INTO 2021 BY GIVING

Dear WOBO Friends,

It’s been a challenging year for many WOBO supporters, with COVID-19 forcing a reduction in our events-based work and curtailing funding from many of our usual sources. We are ever grateful to you for sticking with us through it!  Many of you even volunteered where you could.

We've got many exciting plans for 2021 which we'll share with you in future newsletters.

Please help us carry out those plans by making a year-end donation to WOBO towards our $10,000 campaign goal. Your donation will help advance WOBO's advocacy work to bring walkable, bike-able places to all of Oakland.

Even in the midst of a pandemic, WOBO continued to push forward:
  • held conversations with community members, neighborhood groups, advocacy allies, and city leadership and staff to advance safety projects
  • contributed over 400 hours to support and implement Oakland's Slow Streets initiative
  • produced multiple letters of support for grant applications for funding streetscape, bikeways, and e-bike projects
  • implemented a virtual women's bike camping workshop
  • collaborated with local groups to review city policies on speed limits, parklets / flex street designs and roll out, phase 2 for Slow streets, and much more!
A donation of $35, $50, $100 or $250 will help us continue this work in the upcoming year.  WOBO is a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax-deductible.

Make your end of year donation today.  Consider doubling your donation with a company match! There are many deserving organizations and individuals who could use your support during this time. We would be honored to have your support so we can carry on doing this important work.

LAKE MERRITT CYCLE TRACK TO BE EXTENDED

OakDOT is preparing to extend the two-way Lake Merritt Cycle Track - currently running from Harrison St. at Snow Park to Lakeside Avenue at Jackson St - all the way to E. 12th St alongside Lakeside Ave. and Lake Merritt Boulevard.  This extension is part of a new roadway plan that encourages recreation and safe travel by all modes and is intended to alleviate congestion on the Lake Merritt mixed-use pathway.
Work is scheduled to commence the spring/summer of next year. Complete this online survey to share what you think.  You can sign up for updates about the project here.

SAFETY MEASURES REVIEW on TELEGRAPH

OakDOT plans to make major improvements in 2021 to Telegraph Ave in the KONO (Koreatown/Northgate) neighborhood.  The department has learned a lot through interim improvements to this stretch of Telegraph: bollards between bike lane and parking, beige painted safety zones, restricting left turns and through movements at key intersections.  A pop-up Community input session is being planned for December 5 at / near KP Market to hear from neighbors who may be the most directly impacted. The input session may or may not happen, depending on Alameda County's guidance for safe in-person gatherings outdoors.  We'll keep you posted via social media @walkoakbikeoak.
