Local Restrictions Support Grant

Grant Criteria and an application form is now available for two grant schemes for businesses in response to Covid-19 local and national restrictions. Read more here.


Joint statement from North East NHS and local authority leaders 18.11.20

North East NHS and local authority leaders have issued a joint statement asking for continued public support amid concern at Covid infection rates, with just 14 days until lockdown is due to end.

VODA shortlisted for North East Charity of the Year award

We are delighted to announce that VODA has been shortlisted for North East Charity of the Year at the North East Charity Awards 2020. The winners will be announced online on Thursday 3 December.

VODA’s Chief Executive Robin Fry said: “We are honoured and humbled to have made the shortlist for North East Charity of the Year. It has been an extremely difficult year for charities and these awards are more important than ever to help recognise the achievements of the sector which has stepped up to help those most in need during the pandemic, despite facing many challenges along the way. Congratulations and good luck to all of the nominees.” Read more here.

New role to build strong relationships within Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities

Safiah Fardin has joined the VODA team as the new Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Health, Wellbeing and Information Worker. Safiah is keen to work with as many groups and organisations as possible to make sure that different ethnic minority communities in North Tyneside get the health information they need and are able to access services. Join our free AGM next week, which alongside formal business will feature a panel discussion which will provide insights into the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on North Tyneside residents, volunteers, groups and funders. Hosted by BBC News Journalist Luke Walton, the panel will be made up of staff from The Community Foundation, LD: North East, Walking With and a Good Neighbours volunteer who was a beneficiary in the first lockdown. This session is aimed at helping people understand how to make the most out of web-based calls both as a host and a participant to a meeting. Spending watchdog investigates government's emergency funding for the sector

The National Audit Office has opened an investigation into the government’s support of charities during the Covid-19 pandemic. Read more. 

New winter package to provide further support for children and families

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has launched a new £170m Covid Winter Grant Scheme, which will be run by councils in England. The funding is ring-fenced, with at least 80% earmarked to support with food and bills, and will cover the period to the end of March 2021. Local Authorities will receive the funding at the beginning of December 2020.

Beyond Covid-19: Keeping your charity safe from fraud

The Charity Commission and UK Finance have published a suite of resources to support charities to protect themselves from fraud during the pandemic.

Managing youth sector activities and spaces during COVID-19

The National Youth Agency (NYA), the Professional Statutory and Regulatory Body for youth work in England, has, in consultation with Public Health England and the Health and Safety Executive, developed youth sector specific advice and guidance.

Pilot for family members to get regular testing for safer care home visits

Named family and friends may soon be able to regularly visit loved ones in care homes as a new testing pilot is launched. Read more

Please contribute to the VONNE Covid-19 VCSE survey

The VCSE is invited to take part in VONNE's latest Covid-19 impact survey for the North East, which is a follow-up to their April survey and will be crucial in helping them understand where to focus over the coming months. The survey takes no more than 15 minutes and closes at the end of November. Access it at surveymonkey.co.uk/r/R37S6RH and feel free to share this link.

Animal Assisted Therapy Service available for partnership working

NAATA supports young children’s development with an emphasis upon fostering wellbeing and communication skills. Founded by specialist Speech and Language Therapist Lesley Forrester, NAATA uses carefully selected and reared therapy animals to support the wellbeing and development of children with communication difficulties, which can support outcomes across a wide range of professions and settings. Green light for major environmental projects at Linskill

Over the next few months there will be a lot of contractors in the Linskill Centre to implement the Trust's environmental plan, to improve energy efficiencies and reduce its carbon footprint. New and improved heating systems, lighting and insulation will help future-proof the centre and ensure the ongoing provision of community programmes. Over 1500sqm of roof insulation, will be installed. This new insulation and improved heating will keep the Linskill Centre warm and improve the customer experience. Read more here.

VCS services update during national restrictions

Many charities are working hard to continue to deliver services during the new national restrictions. A number of face to face activities are still allowed under the new guidelines, but where this is not possible, many things have returned to online provision. Here is a snapshot of what is still happening in North Tyneside. This list will be kept up to date as and when we are notified of any changes. Make It Happen, PNE

A new, funded programme is supporting unemployed women across Newcastle and North Tyneside. Make It Happen, delivered by PNE, will help 40 participants to gain an accredited qualification and explore starting a business. The programme will be delivered over 14 weeks and mixes workshops with supported home learning and offers childcare grants to those who need support to attend. Moving on Tyne & Wear: David's story

Find out more about the work of Moving on Tyne & Wear in their latest case study featuring David, who with support from the programme has developed news skills, gained confidence and is now volunteering. 
“This programme came out of nowhere for me and it made me realise that there are different paths that can be taken and still a possibility of things getting better as long as I’m here trying. So even though this pandemic has been bad, there’s been a silver lining at least for me.” Read more here. 

Diocese of Newcastle independent review

The Diocese of Newcastle has appointed two independent reviewers to study all cases where safeguarding concerns about anyone in the church have been reported, and whether the appropriate measures were taken as a result. In addition every clergy file is being reviewed. The independent reviewers are keen to hear from you if you have experienced abuse within the church and their contact details can be found here.

North East Community-led Housing Festival 2020

Due to the restrictions of the current pandemic, the annual North East Community-led Housing conference has moved online – and become a week-long festival! The week aims to include something for everyone – whether you are just interested in finding out more about community-led housing or you are already deeply involved and want to gain some inspiration from successful projects or get some key questions answered. North Tyneside CCG VCS grant scheme update

Although, it had been the CCGs intention to invest further into the VCS Grant Scheme in 2021/22, due to the COVID pandemic this is no longer possible. The CCG will continue to fund all existing large grants recipients throughout the remainder of their grant agreement period and has also extended all of the small grants to the end of 20/21. Once the COVID pandemic is over, it is the CCGs intention to review the VCS grant scheme with the hope to invest further in voluntary and community services.
