The Messy Christmas Medley

Dear Messy friends

If you’re missing carol singing this year, fear not! Clear your throat and burst out into song with our December newsletter Messy Christmas Medley. If you can work out which verse goes to the tune of which song (and how the convoluted extra syllables fit into the tunes), award yourself a mince pie with extra brandy butter. Better make it two. (Answers at the bottom.)
Messy leaders looked distressed
going into lockdown.
Was this now the end of Mess?
Had Messy Church been shot down?’
‘Don’t be silly!’ they declared,
‘We will not be beaten!
We will share the love of Christ,
even if fishfingers can’t be eaten!’
O little towns all over the world
that still in lockdown lie,
around your stores and closed-up doors
a thousand wonders fly:
Sheep TrailsAt homes or Messy-in-a-bag,
In churches or on Zoom,
Ideas to bless with love and mess
into every living room.
While sheep trails happen through the night
in street and road and lane,
we thank our great good shepherd for
ten years of Messy Jane
We nine teams of Messy Church are!
Call and we’ll help you from your sofa.
Here to cheer, inspire and steer you,
each one a shining star.
‘Ding Dong! This looks lots of fun!’
cried Messy lads and lasses.
Ding Dong! 2021

Has the whole of 2020 been hard knocks?
Are you fed up and frustrated?
Are you sick of being gated?
Well, there’s one thing you can always count upon:
so here it is – Messy Christmas! Though so much has not been fun,
look to the Christmas truth: God’s love goes on and o-o-on!
We wish you a Messy Christmas,
a Jesus-filled, holy Christmas,
a love-loaded, life-filled Christmas
and a happy (better than that – a joyful, peaceful and hopeful) new year!
Deck the halls with boughs of holly! (falalala, etc.)
2020’s not been jolly (falalala, etc.)
yet amidst this time so stressy (falalala, etc.)
we can still rejoice in Messy! (falalala, etc.)
Whether you’re home or away this season, may the light and love of Jesus shine out of you and light up your world.

With gratefulness for your companionship in the gospel through this Messy ministry in bad times and in good, and with much love.
