1 December 2020

The more I spend my days (and my very short nights) immersed in strategies, plans, budgets, people - flip charts, spreadsheets, Zoom calls – the more I love to hear about YMCA people doing incredible things all over the world.  Like Steve Loh at YMCA Singapore. Watch the video below: Steve saw a need amongst many vulnerable people made even more vulnerable by Covid, and he met that need by rustling up cooks and drivers to prepare and deliver meals.  It’s stories like this that keep me going, and we as a Movement are full of them. By the end of the year, I want to collect all your Covid stories, photos and videos, especially the ones that show young people as first responders in their own communities. Please send them to me at office@ymca.int

We’re coming to the end of a very tough year – for the YMCA Movement, and for young people the world over. And yet we’re upbeat, because Covid is an accelerator of change – an opportunity for change. More of that next year. For now, enjoy some of the latest news.

Week of Prayer 2020 fellowship service - Highlights!
‘Rays of hope: creating resilient communities’ meant even more as the theme of the annual World Week of Prayer and Fellowship this year, as the world continues to face a global pandemic which has had profound impacts on young people’s employment, education, and mental and spiritual wellbeing.  World YWCA created six themed reflections and a Bible reading plan for the year, and World YMCA hosted an online worldwide Fellowship service on 13 November.  “We are overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of the content and response!”   More

Y USA's support for kids in Covid times
Youth empowerment is YMCA's first goal, which is why we are rightly associated with our work for and with teenagers and early 20s. But YMCA is there for young and old alike, for communities and for the vulnerable. And we start young: on World Children’s Day, 20 November, we put together some of the many stories of what we do for babies, toddlers, and kids. Thousands of YMCA people went on summer camps with their families when they were as young as 5, and they stayed as part of a Global Movement.  More
