West Central Boulevard Improvements Project
This Project was publicly bid on Wednesday, June 24 with two bids submitted on Thursday, August 13. Staff met with the low bidder (Gibbs & Register) to discuss value engineering to lower the project cost. The contract was approved by City Council at the October 17, 2020 City Council meeting. A pre-construction meeting was held on October 29; Staff also contacted area residents. The work area includes West Central Boulevard from SR A1A to Thurm Boulevard and will include the construction of streetscape amenities similar to Ridgewood and North Atlantic Avenues. A work schedule and maintenance of traffic plan are being developed – work begins on November 30, 2020.

- Prepared for, hosted virtual portion for and attended November 17, 2020 Regular City Council Meeting.
- Provided certificates to newly sworn-in Council Members Wes Morrison and Angela Raymond.
- Processed items approved and/or authorized by Council.
- Continued preparing and reviewing agenda and items for December 15, 2020 Regular City Council Meeting.
BID #2020-03 – HEADWORKS AND FILTER IMPROVEMENTS
- Continued distributing Bid/Project information and documents to interested parties.
- The due date/location for Bid packet submittals and the Bid Opening will be at City Hall on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. and 2:05 p.m., respectively.
RFP #2020‑01 COMMERCIAL SURF SCHOOL FRANCHISE
- Notice published in Florida Today legal ads section on November 19, 2020.
- The due date/location for RFP packet submittals and the RFP Opening will be at City Hall on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. and 3:05 p.m., respectively.
COVID-19, Hybrid (in-person & remote), Staff Meetings and other items
- City Clerk’s Office Staff are staggering working remotely and on-site, in an effort to continue following federal, state and local social-distancing, stay-at-home, PPE and phased return‑to‑work guidelines.
- Met with City Manager’s Office Staff regarding clear dividers at Council Chambers dais.
- Met with Cultural + Community Affairs Staff regarding enhancements to Council Chambers A/V equipment.
- Began compiling information and data for annual State of the City report.

- Met with BCSO Precinct Commander and City Attorney regarding Statutory regulations and jurisdictional ability to prohibit electric bicycles and similar vehicles on City sidewalks.

- Held in-person/virtual monthly Directors/Staff Meeting.

- Met with City Clerk and Cultural + Community Affairs Director to discuss A/V improvement opportunities for the Council Chamber.

- Attended conference calls with the Emergency Operations Team (EOT), Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and City Manager/County Manager teams.
- Actively monitoring COVID-19 and hurricane activity; evaluating and communicating information as needed.

Cape Canaveral Planning Process & Integrating Resilience Virtual Workshop
On November 10th the City held a VIRTUAL workshop with our partners at the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council (ECFRPC) and the University of Florida (UF) to discuss resilience in the City of Cape Canaveral. This workshop reviewed the City’s resilience work and history with the State’s “peril of flood” legislation. Discussion also included the recommendations from the 2019 vulnerability assessment and how these recommendations may be incorporated into the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Codes.

Special Events
- Reindeer Run
It is time for one of the City’s longest standing traditions; the Reindeer Run. This year, the City will celebrate the 25th year it has hosted the run on our streets. The run will take place December 12 at 8:00 a.m. at Cherie Down Park. All proceeds benefit Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Charities Inc. The first 500 registrants will receive a commemorative tech shirt. This run is part of the Space Coast Runners race series which is the most coveted series in Brevard County. There will be a huge amount of prizes given away through random drawings and all registered participants are qualified to be in the drawings. Prizes include tickets to Universal Studios, hotel stays and gift cards to many local restaurants. Whether you’re a competitive runner looking to break a world record or would like to get a little exercise walking with your family that morning, you’re welcomed to participate in this fun and unique experience. - Movie in the Park
Movie in the Park returned to Canaveral City Park on Friday, November 20 with the showing of The Secret Life of Pets 2. Many families came out to enjoy a movie under the stars. The weather was great, seating was socially distanced and Staff handed out masks and hand sanitizer to those who wanted them.
- Letters from Santa
Registration to receive a letter from Santa begins December 1 at 8:00 a.m. Registrants must live in Cape Canaveral, however the child/children do not need to be residents. All who register before December 15 will receive a personalized letter by mail from the North Pole. Register online to receive a letter from Santa!

- Ladies Pickleball got rained out last week, but teams will gather at the Nancy Hanson Recreation Complex every Thursday night for a fun-filled night of Pickleball under the lights.
- The Pickleball Mixed Doubles League took to the courts last Monday afternoon for their Week 2 matches. Nancy and Robert along with Christine and Kimble are sitting atop the leaderboard with a 2-0 record. Eventually the two will faceoff in what should be an extremely competitive match.
- Adult Co-ed Kickball returned to the field this week after last Wednesday's break for Veterans Day. Last week’s first game was a blowout with B.O.A.F. proving that they are the team to beat after posting a 15-1 victory versus W.S.; Red’s took on Coaster’s in the 7:30 p.m. matchup and a beat them 16-3.
- The Monday and Wednesday Night Tennis Leagues continued their seasons. Gary is currently leading the Monday Night League with an undefeated record. Chad and Thorpe are both undefeated in the Wednesday Night League with 6-0 records.
- Wednesday Night Racquetball entered the first round of playoffs with the top eight players from the regular season making up the bracket to compete for the Championship. Roger ended the season undefeated and is looking to win it all in the next few weeks as the tournament unfolds. Registration for the next season is now open!
