“We are a social species. Our social networks (families, tribes, communities, etc.) enabled us to survive and thrive.” —Clifford Singer (2018)
HEALTHY HOUSEHOLDS

COVID-19 has created new needs. In response to the pandemic Horizon worked to realign our grant program to prioritize safety, flexibility, quick response times, and services that have a direct and immediate impact on residents’ lives. We adjusted and simplified our grant application process, and moved to a rolling application deadline. The application makes clear that Horizon is focused on meeting basic needs such as food security, access to essential supplies, educational materials, and support for isolated seniors, and it also requires the property to describe how they will ensure safety and proper social distancing as resources are distributed to residents.

Fall 2020 At-A-Glance

  • 6,178 Meals provided
  • 2,829 Essential Kits

  • 1,517 Activity Kits for Seniors
*** LIHTC funding makes it possible for all services to be provided at no cost to residents.

SCHOLARSHIP HIGHLIGHT

Tyron H. is a Junior majoring in Engineering, at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Tyron has really enjoyed many of his classes, including trigonometry, and has had some very supportive instructors. He is in his last year and anticipating graduation.  When asked about this year, he said, “This year was a very interesting year. I moved into my junior year which felt like a long time coming. This year came with harder classes, higher expectations, and a lot of self-doubt but I am still continuing to push myself. I am just one semester away from entering into my dual enrollment program which is honestly a big deal. I can’t wait to knock this next semester out with your added support."

HHF currently has 29 college scholarship recipients, 2 high school recipients and 3 elementary school recipients.
HHF LEADERSHIP CHANGES
HHF is pleased to announce some leadership changes. Noel McKay is being promoted to the Director of Social Services, and Micki Biedscheid is being promoted to Director of Scholarships and Operations. These promotions will lead to improved quality of services and outreach, grow our educational scholarships, and help HHF grow as an organization.
