The Wetlands Cypress Fountain Pen

Clip by jewelry artist/designer Brandi Couvillion
Sometime in the 16th century, around the time Columbus discovered what was to be called The New World, a great cypress tree fell in the Achafalaya Basin, the largest block of floodplain forest in the country.

After 500 years it lay at the bottom of the swamp, slowly absorbing the minerals of the rich river silt that buried it, becoming gilded and hardened, it was discovered.

In the 21st century, after decades of attempts at recovery, it was finally brought to the surface.

In 2019 we asked Chet Herbert if he would create a pen from one of these rare, ancient trees, known as Sinker Cypress, and we asked New Orleans jewelry artist Brandi Couvillion to design the a clip for us: The Bayou Saint John.

Long ago, Bayou Saint John was a trade waterway between Lake Ponchatrain and the Mississippi River, essential for the struggling French Colony of New Orleans to thrive.

Very much like the flow of thoughts from the mind to the hand; creativity is essential for us to thrive.

The result is this beautiful and unique fountain pen, crafted by two incredible talents.

Limited edition of 113 signed and numbered pens.
