Pumpkin Smash 2020

What will you do with your pumpkin after Halloween?

Don’t let it rot in landfill!   Bring your jack-o-lantern to SCARCE's annual Pumpkin Smash to be composted – nature’s method of recycling.

Click here for a map of Pumpkin Smash Locations.

Pumpkins are accepted from 9am-12pm TODAY unless otherwise noted.
Participating locations can  be found throughout Illinois.

How to Smash? Bring your plain, clean pumpkins of any size, as well as pumpkins painted with acrylic paint. Any pumpkin decorations such as candles, yarn, stickers or other decorations should be removed prior to drop-off.   You can Smash it, or they will for you!

Can't make the Smash?  Compost your own pumpkin -- here's how.

Why Compost?   By composting your pumpkin, you are keeping waste out of landfills, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating a natural fertilizer for our soil.  Learn more.

It’s going to be a smashing good time!

Wanted:  Subject Matter Specialists + EBay Sellers

We need to find homes for niche objects that get donated -- like Lionel Trains and Vintage Watches -- within and beyond our normal audience, so we are building a team of Subject Matter Specialists and EBay Sellers for specific categories of donated items.

Subject Matter Specialists will oversee how items are organized in the warehouse; make referrals to potential recipients, such as teachers, nonprofits, community groups; and sometimes refer items for online sales to our CCRx Ebay Sellers / Charity Shop.  EBay Sellers will offer select items in our EBay Charity Shop.

Both Specialists and Sellers will start on a volunteer basis and we will negotiate in-kind renumeration and possible contract employment.   Together we'll help Chicago teachers + Nonprofits get materials and inspiration they need and keep great things out of the landfill!
