Celebrate

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ZONTA!

101
NOVEMBER 8, 2020

Dear <<First Name>>

Welcome to November! We have a lot going on this month! Every Member Every November Campaign, 16 Days of Activism, club fundraisers, celebrating our 101th anniversary and the list goes on.
Zonta International has started Every Member Every November Campaign. Join Lt. Governor Sheena and I in making a difference and gender equality a reality for women and children worldwide. So far, our District has raised over $1800.00 with 3.5% of members donating. I encourage first ever members to donate between November 10-20, 2020.  This is Zonta International’s second mini challenge. Let us be the number one district with most first ever donations. For our district, log on to the District 4 website at www.zontadistrict4.org  and see which Area is in the lead with donations. Is it your Area?
16 Days of Activism will be starting on November 25th. D4 Advocacy Committee has campaign resources prepared for you to engage your club and community. Social media, email and calendar are included. The work is done for you! All resources are available on the D4 website at www.zontadistrict4.org.
I encourage you to take an active part in EMEN and 16 Days of Activism. More information is available in this E News. Hear from D4 Zonta Foundation for Women Ambassador and D4 Advocacy Committee. We can make a positive difference in the lives of women and children.

As we experience uncertainty in these unprecedented times, kindness unites us as a global community. Everyone has the power to make a positive difference in the lives of others by giving to those in need. Through the collective efforts of Zonta’s members, we can make a measurable impact in the lives of women and girls across the world. Typically, donations collected at the Zonta International Convention build a solid foundation toward meeting our fundraising goals. Unfortunately, we lost this opportunity because the 2020 Convention was canceled due to COVID-19.

The Every Member Every November District Challenge was created to build up this base while also allowing for some friendly inter-district competition. We encourage each member to make a personal gift through their district’s team, or the individual member team, page in support of Zonta’s international service projects. With each gift, your district has the opportunity to be promoted within the Zonta Community.

Challenge One: 1-8 November First eight districts that get 101 donations Prize: Featured on the “My Zonta” page; will also receive Zonta birthday badge on GoFundMe page

Challenge Two: 10-20 November District that has the most active members make their first ever personal donation to the Foundation during the challenge period Prize: Special social media mention; Puzzle badge on GoFundMe page

Final Bonus Challenge: 1 December (Giving Tuesday) District that raises the most on that day Prize: Special video message from International President to be sent to governor and foundation ambassador to be shared with district and posted on Zonta’s YouTube; will also receive a Giving Tuesday badge on GoFundMe page

This fund supports programs that focus on girls’ education, adolescent girls’ health, preventing early marriage and eliminating other forms of violence against women and girls. Birthing Kit Update

Area 4 Clubs were able to ship 1,750 birthing kits to Nicaragua at the end of October.  These kits were assembled last spring and were stored during the shutdown due to COVID-19.  We were thrilled they were able to be shipped. These kits were donated by the Amherst, Batavia-Genesee, Buffalo, Cheektowaga-Lancaster and Hamburg-Orchard Park Clubs. Geneva also has 200 kits, but we were not able to transfer them quickly enough for this shipment.

In addition to the US clubs, I'm thrilled to report that Oakville club is in the midst of finalizing 1100 birthing kits completed by their members individually at home. KW club completed 1000 birthing kits covid style on October 24th, with the prep completed by members at home, and the assembly by 10 members socially distanced. KW's 1000 and 400 from Stratford were delivered to World Vision for shipping to Afghanistan. Oakville's will be delivered once complete.

The Zonta Club of Hamburg-Orchard Park donated 23 birthday bags to the Sts. ZC HAMBURG-ORCHARD PARK'S IN PERSON MEETINGS
We'd like to share our club's experience in being able to continue In Person Meetings. We were even able to induct three new members in person. Restaurants are unable to accommodate us but Banquet Facilities are familiar with serving occasional meetings. Member Donna Ketchum-Colletta, with Marianne Chiumento's help, arranged for Michael's Banquet Facility to serve us one agreed upon meal to all in a huge room with excellent distancing. The minimum of 20 reserved paid meals with salad, dessert, coffee & tea are delicious; service - excellent & each Zontian simply pays for her own wine. Of course, we wear masks except when seated & depend on each Zontian's responsibility to only attend while healthy. We hope that by sharing our success story, we might help another club to be able meet in person.

Our D4 database and the ZI database of member email addresses do not sync together. Once a biennium we start with the ZI information, but after that all changes need to be reported to both places. So if someone is not receiving this newsletter, or if a member changes their email, or if you induct a new member, please notify both D4 and ZI. Changes can be made online with ZI and can be made with D4 by emailing communications@zontadistrict4.org.
