Rundown NASHS event
Next event ASHS Nov 15th

NASHS
11 people took on the Medium course and 6 of them had a fastest split somewhere in their runs, and the 3 newcomers finished within 57s of each other. Looking at Winsplits and it can be seen that certain legs provoked more errors than others – number 4 (read the description) and number 9 (thumb your map to track where you are) had a few big blow-outs, whereas number 18 and number 21 had half the field making small but significant errors.  On the Short Course complete novice and Year 2 student Caitlin Harding was the winner by 3 minutes – and for good measure did the course again later in the morning some 5 minutes faster!

Series Points
In our club series points competition for the season we now have two events remaining and only one category isn’t decided already – Women’s Senior. The series points are based on each runner’s minutes per kilometre rate for their course but with a scaling factor applied based on age groups. Karen Douglas is leading and has run 7 events, and with the best 5 counting she has a 3 point lead over Lyn Stoltze who also has a full complement of scoring runs. Jen Graham-Taylor has only run 4 times, but scored 100 points each time, and only needs to run one more event successfully to take the title… and she’s away for the ASHS event. Tracey cannot win, but she too has only 4 runs on the board and can improve to at least 3rd place.

Men’s Senior is over for this season with Tony Whittaker having an unassailable lead and scoring a point higher than John Toomey every time they’ve both run an event. Tony has 6 scoring runs already whilst John only has 4 from the early part of the season and even with a 100 pts at the final event cannot overhaul Tony’s current 499, likely to be 500 after ASHS (where John is setter).  Disappointingly this season we’ve not had any juniors convert to members so Ruth and Edmund have had it all their own way by completing their courses! Thankfully their handicaps will begin to get tougher when they enter the Senior division in a few years as ours all improve.

Next Event
Albany Senior High School. Sunday November 15th. Start times from 8:30 to 9:30am and courses close at 10:30am. There will be 3 courses on offer – a short and a medium on the grounds of ASHS plus some recent extensions, and a long course that will dip its toes into
some surrounding terrain – if a couple of volunteers step up to help John organise things on the day of the event.

We look forward to seeing you on the 15th.
Kind regards
John Toomey (President)
