This Prayer email is the first of five during our GBC Call to Prayer week with Bible reflections and points for prayer. They have been written for us by Daniel Beckett and Paul Hamilton. Each day we will think about one verse from Isaiah 55.
Monday - Call on Him whilst He is near
As we start our week of prayer, we ask God to make us aware of the need for prayer in our world. He may need to give you a klaxon call that is loud and disturbing. God doesn’t want us to be scared or worried because of what is happening in our world, near and far, but it does need to stir us into action.
Isaiah 55:6 - Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on Him while He is near.
Let us spend intentional time today praying; let us seek God, call on Him, and listen carefully for His words to us. The Hebrew for ‘call on Him’ is saying that we should ‘proclaim, call, shout, name’. Sometimes in our own devotional prayer life we will pray in our own mind or with whispers. Today is a day to call out with a vocal voice, if you can find space at home, or while out on a walk.
Pray today that you will be light in our world. Pray that all Christians may be able to shine light in every area of our world.
Testimony
Sometimes I find it hard to call out to God. I get overwhelmed with my own thoughts and the sin and darkness that surrounds. But then I remember that God is faithful, and has been through the ages. I know full well that He has looked after me and my family through the storms of life. The Lord is near, and I can always count on His promises. This song: https://youtu.be/q5m09rqOoxE really moved my spirit, and led me into praying.
Prayers
- God I praise your name, and great is your faithfulness.
- I pray that your light will shine brightly in this dark world.
- I pray that all Christians may keep their lamps burning and share your light in every area of our world.
