Kevin Peet (helm), Brent Mullan (main) and Beno Costello (bow)
Hi everyone

Apologies for been a bit late getting this latest newsletter out.

The 2020 Traveller Series is all wrapped up and big congratulations to the team from SMAK for taking out the title. Just like the nationals, a very close points table that is reflective of the ongoing close racing our great class produces.

With the end of the Traveller Series, a couple of boats are on the market. There is a good range of boats available. If you are interested in a change, upgrade or just getting into the class, then the for sale section is worth a look.

In this addition:
  • Omaha Traveller Series
  • Traveller Series 2021
  • Summer Sailing
  • For Sale etc
If you have any thing that you would like included in the newsletter such as for sale or an article from local events please let us know and we will do our best to get it included.

Omaha Traveller Series: 10 - 11 October

Unfortunately, the weather was against us. The breeze was at the upper limits and whipped up quite a sea state so no racing was possible across either of the two days.

However, with a good turn out of crews, most people took the opportunity to sample the local hospitality. The Sawmill Brewery definitely gets a highly recommended.

Saturday evening saw the crews come together for the annual Traveller Series wrap up. An awesome paella evening was enjoyed by all.

Overall Traveller Series
Like most events this year, the Traveller Series was significantly disrupted by Covid 19. The opening round at Napier was the first casualty and to be honest, the whole series was looking in serious doubt. This definitely had a big impact on the southern based boats participation and it was unfortunate to not have them on the start line. However, with some significant perseverance and support from participating crews, a series took place with regattas at Opua, Marsden Cove, Sandspit and Marsden Cove.

While it was challenging series, overall it was great to be able to have the opportunity to go racing when so many other events were just not possible.

Final Results
Tight at the top with SMAK taking out the title over R+R and the ever consistent Slam Dunk rounding out the podium. Head to the website for the full points table.

Traveller Series 2021

The general outline for the 2021 Traveller Series is as follows:
  • Napier
  • Taupo
  • Whitianga (Nationals)
  • Bucklands Beach
  • Omaha/Sandspit
Currently working on locking in the actual dates. At this stage, we expect to start in Napier around April and wrap up with the final event in Sept or Oct with approx 5 - 6 weeks between each event. We will get actual dates out as soon as they are available.
Summer Sailing

Eagle is already on the water racing at the Avimor Classic.

The Napier fleet is expecting five E5.9's on the water for Napier Summer Regatta (28 - 29th November 2020). This is going to be a large event with some 300 boats over 3 course on the water. The Napier fleet would be keen to see any other E5.9s that would like to join us for what is shaping as a great event.

We are also planning on getting an E5.9 event as part of one of the Taupo summer regattas and possibly heading further south to Wellington if there is enough interest.
Further details and dates etc will be provided as we get them locked in
