We continue to pray, work, witness and champion Justice and Equality for all People.
As I have watched the celebrations in the streets over the past 24 hours and watched the President-elect and the history-making Vice President-elect address the nation, I have experienced many emotions. Relief. Joy. Hope. All of those combined with a rejoicing that our democracy is alive and a clarity that it is time for healing to begin.
Our work as a people of faith continues. Claremont UMC and the people of this faith community did not stop working for justice and equality and peace and freedom in the past four years, and that work continues. It will be most visible, again, this year in our Nativity display, as well as all the ways we continue to work for the least of these as Jesus calls us to do. I said much of this in my sermon today, however, our pre-recording schedule meant that I was preaching before the election was called. (Though I expected the outcome when I preached Friday morning.)
I have always been in congregations that held people of varying political perspectives. And, I have always said that we come together with our common faith in Christ. That is true at Claremont UMC as well. I know there are Republicans and Democrats and Independents among us. And we all continue to work together for justice and equality guided and led by the Holy Spirit.
