Introducing Lavinia Raynor

About Me
Hello I'm Lavinia Raynor. I originate from Leicestershire but have been living in Beverley for 30 years. I have five grown up children, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grand children.
I have always worked with children in my working life through; fostering, helping at schools, being a governor at some of the local schools, supporting children travelling to and from school and at St Mary's Church. I am now retired. I like to spend my retirement tending to my gardens throughout the year.
Sadly this year I lost my husband Paul due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which we did a lot of fundraising for as it is not a well known disease publicly.
I have made a lot of friends at church through the years. We have supported each other, laughed (lots) but always discussing our next church fundraising and flower arrangement.

Connection with St Mary's
When my youngest son started to sing in the choir I began to attend St Mary's Church. From then on I have been involved at St Mary's Church whether that was attending fundraising meetings, supporting the Sunday school, being a warden of 5 years, creating the 'soup/afternoon tea & natter' event which happened once a month pre-covid.
I have created many floral arrangements to celebrate key moments in the church.
St Mary's (the church and the people) have been there for me in moments where I have been happy & sad.
St Mary's Church has been a pillar of strength in my Christian beliefs.

My Passions
I like to do flower arranging at home, for special celebrations and at church.
My garden. I'm also a keen baker, my shortbread is legendary!
My main passion is my family. They are all growing up and getting older but are still my one constant support in my beliefs at St Mary's Church.

What encourages my Faith
Human Beings. Without my friends and family I would not have the faith I have today. They bring me joy, happiness, kindness, laughter and sometimes sadness. Without faith I feel that we would loose our connection to others, God and life itself.
Supporting Church while you shop on Amazon

St Mary's Church has set up an account with AmazonSmile.  AmazonSmile is a program that donates 0.5% of your eligible purchases on Amazon to a charity of your choice. All you need to do is start your shopping at smile.amazon.com. The donation will be made at no extra cost to you. So if you are planning to do some shopping on Amazon over lockdown, or maybe buying some Christmas presents, please consider doing it through AmazonSmile and helping add to the church funds.
AmazonSmile is very simple to use—all you need is an Amazon account. On your first visit to the site you will be asked to log in to your Amazon account . You will then be prompted to choose a charity to support. Just type in "St Mary's Church, Beverley" to find us.  During future visits to the site, AmazonSmile will remember your charity and apply eligible purchases towards your total contribution—it is that easy. (just remember to go to the smile.amazon.com address, not the usual amazon.com site)

Reform, Rebellion, Restoration: St Mary's, Beverley & The Tudors
Unfortunately the Tudor Exhibition is no longer available  to view in Church due to the latest Government guidelines. You can however see the pictures and read the information on the following links:

Study Course - Goliath must fall
Goliath must fall - Session 6
You are welcome to join us for the session below
(even if you have not made it to other sessions)

Put aside what you may think about the classic David vs. Goliath story.

In Goliath Must Fall, Giglio shows us how to dwell on the size of our God, not the height of our giants. Once we understand the source of our giants, we can ensure that whatever our affliction is, it will fall before the power of Jesus.

Thursday 12th November (7.30-8.30pm) - Addiction Must Fall

We will be looking at new material from next week, information to follow

Those who are joining us for the discussion group can do so over zoom. Don’t worry if you cannot make every session. These discussion groups will take place on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm using the following link:

Prayers for the week beginning
Wednesday 11th November 2020

(broadcast each evening on Facebook)

A simple form of evening prayer and candle lighting *

At St Mary's we would like to invite you to join us in a short time of prayer every day at 7pm. It involves lighting a candle and placing it in the window and then saying the following prayers as individuals or as households.  You can join with others in these prayers on our Facebook page.

The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen.

Our help is in the name of the Lord
who made heaven and earth.

A period of silence for reflection on the past day may follow.

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.

The following may be watched My hope

The reading for the day (see below)**

The candle is lit and the following prayer is said
Heavenly Father, accept this burning candle as a sign of faith and love.
Like this candle, bring light into our world
Even as this candle is lit may we know your presence
and be consumed in the warmth of your love.
In your mercy, Lord hear our prayer.

In peace we will lie down and sleep;
for you alone, Lord, make us dwell in safety.

Abide with us, Lord Jesus
for the night is at hand and the day is now past.

As the night watch looks for the morning
so do we look for you, O Christ.

The Lord bless us and watch over us;
the Lord make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us;
the Lord look kindly on us and give us peace. Amen.
