BEYOND CURATED PRESENTS

A FESTIVE TUDOR EVENING
with Alison Weir and Siobhan Clarke

23rd November 2020 7pm BST (1pm EDT)

We’re incredibly passionate about history and British heritage and as the festive season approaches and we navigate towards the end of an historic year, it’s inspiring to turn to the past and be enriched by the fascinating and colourful way that the Tudors celebrated Christmas.

We’re delighted to partner with best selling authors and historians, Alison Weir and Siobhan Clarke, to present a festive celebration of their wonderful book, A Tudor Christmas.

Journey with us as the authors take us back in time with readings from their book and unique insights into the creative process.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions after the talks, and one lucky participant will win a copy of A Tudor Christmas which will be signed for them, live, during the webinar.

The session will be chaired by Linda Hugo, founder and director of Beyond Curated

ABOUT A TUDOR CHRISTMAS
We might assume that our modern Christmas owes much to the Victorians. In fact, as Alison Weir and Siobhan Clarke reveal, many of our favourite Christmas traditions date back much further. Carol-singing, present-giving, mulled wine and mince pies were all just as popular in Tudor times, and even Father Christmas and roast turkey dinners have their origins in this period. The Tudor Christmas was a time of feasting, revelry and merrymaking, a twelve-day-long festival, over which the Lord of Misrule held sway, and convention was thrown to the winds. Christmas was so beloved by English people that its traditions survived remarkably unchanged in this age of tumultuous religious upheaval.
