Our online antique map gallery is updated daily. For your enjoyment and consideration, please find below a list of our most recent acquisitions.

We hope you and your loved ones remain both safe and healthy.  For now, Geographicus will continue to operate mostly as usual.  One change, we are limiting in-office appointments until further notice.  There also may be a slight delay in processing some orders, depending upon how governments and other businesses (like FedEx) respond to the coronavirus outbreak  While we will continue to ship most orders as they are received, on request we are happy to hold purchases for delayed shipping.

1538 Münster Map of Asia, Africa and the Pacific Northwest

The first printed map of the Pacific Northwest.

This is a rare 1538 map of Asia, executed by Sebastian Münster for inclusion in his edition of Solinus' Polyhistor . It predates by two years the map of Asia in Münster's 1540 Geographia. Although it is not entirely a modern work, it is the earliest printed map focusing on the continent of Asia. It also contains the first printed representation of the Pacific Northwest, more than thirty years prior to the Ortelius map generally granted that laurel. PRICE: 3500.00 USD

1918 Bernard Sleigh 'Anciente Mappe of Fairlyand'

An Anciente Mappe of Fairy Land newly discovered and set forth.

An idyllic fantastical land created by Bernard Sleigh at the end of the Great War and which then stood in sharp juxtaposition to bomb-blasted Europe.

An extraordinary 5-foot-long edition of Bernard Sleigh's 1918 fantastical map of Fairy Land. This fanciful map offers a wide birds-eye view style panorama of the island of 'Fairy Land' which it describes as 'newly discovered and set forth'. Fairy Land, as set for the by Sleigh, is a wonderful juxtaposition of European fairy tales, literature, and Greek mythology. PRICE: 3500.00 USD

Beautifully Executed Manuscript Atlas.

This is a beautifully-executed late 18th manuscript pocket atlas of the world. It is a student work - similar to later, 19th century 'schoolgirl' or 'schoolboy' maps - but has been produced with an unusual level of uniformity and care, and it has been attractively bound. The maps, all done in the same hand, are painstakingly drawn and lettered, and have been carefully and attractively illuminated in original hand color. PRICE: 2750.00 USD

A remarkable large-scale 1888 map of Belize, then British Honduras, developed to solicit railroad developers to bid on rights to construct a line from Belize City to Guatemala City. On the cusp of change.

A visually striking c. 1928 large-scale folding chromolithograph map of Vietnam, then French Indochina, issued by L'U.C.I.A., Union Commerciale Indochinoise et Africaine . The map covers all of modern-day Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, as well as parts of adjacent Thailand (Siam). The focus of the map is on road networks within Indochina, but its most striking feature is the interesting advertising surrounding the map proper. PRICE: 1350.00 USD

Containing the Tonkin insurgency.

This is an 1891 French Bureau topographique des Troupes de l'Indo-Chine map of Tonkin, Vietnam, Indochina. Depicting a region ravaged by war and still fighting against French occupation forces, the map was issued to provide the newly appointed governor-general of Indochina Jean-Marie de Lanessan, with a comprehensive view of Tonkin. Cities, towns, and villages are identified, and roads are illustrated throughout. PRICE: 1250.00 USD

The end of the Sino-French War.

This is an 1885 French Service Géographique de l'Armée map of Tonkin, the northern region of modern-day Vietnam, then French Indochina. This map was published just after the end of the Sino-French War for the French army. Red lines trace roads throughout the region and red crossed swords mark battlefields. The map focuses on the Red River Delta and uses the Vietnamese word cua to identify the many rivers along the Gulf of Tonkin. PRICE: 950.00 USD

A view of the first Rush Street Bridge that was destroyed three years after it opened.

This is a 1929 Raoul Varin aquatint view of the Rush Street Bridge. The bridge occupies the foreground and a large crowd of people gather on the near end of the bridge. Buildings line the far bank, McCormick's Reaper Factory and the sugar refinery both identified. Sailing ships line both banks of the Chicago River and a steamship, name the Comet steams away from the bridge toward Lake Michigan. PRICE: 900.00 USD

This is a 1929 Raoul Varin aquatint view of the Leland Hotel at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Jackson Street, on the Magnificent Mile. Trees line Michigan Avenue and pedestrians walk along the sidewalks. Horse-drawn carriages make their way up and down Michigan Avenue transporting Chicago's elite. The Chicago Water Tower - one of the few buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire.

This is a 1929 Raoul Varin aquatint view of the Chicago city waterworks and water tower as it appeared in 1868. Located on modern-day Michigan Avenue (called Pine Street in 1868), the Water Tower and the pump house survived the Great Chicago Fire of October 8-10, 1871. It stands 182.5 feet tall and housed a 138-foot high standpipe while it was operational. PRICE: 900.00 USD

This is a 1930 Raoul Varin aquatint view of the First Baptist Church at the corner of Washington and South LaSalle Streets in Chicago, Illinois, as it appeared in 1857. The view looks southwest over Chicago from the top of the courthouse. The First Baptist Church dominates the foreground, while individual buildings and trees line South LaSalle Street. This is a 1929 Raoul Varin aquatint view of the Wells and Clark Street Bridges across the Chicago River in Chicago, Illinois. Looking west along the Chicago River, the Chicago Tobacco Works and the Western Transportation Company appear in the foreground. Boats line the Chicago River, and the span of the Clark Street Bridge is turned horizontally to allow a boat to pass. The Wells Street Bridge still spans the river and has not yet been swung upward for the boat. PRICE: 900.00 USD

1899 Otis Map of Central Luzon, Philippines, during the Philippine-American War

Central Luzon issued during the Philippine-American War.

This is an extremely rare map of central Luzon, the Philippines, issued at the height of the Philippine-American War (1899 - 1902) by William L. Sibert of the 8th Army Engineering Corps and the Military Governor in the Philippines, Major General Elwell Stephen Otis. This map is one of the most detailed cartographic productions to emerge from the Philippine-American War. It covers central Luzon, specifically the lands, including and just north of Manila and Manila Bay to Lingayen Gulf. PRICE: 850.00 USD

Comic yet honest pictorial map of Baltimore County.

This is a c. 1935 Richard Yardley pictorial map of Baltimore County, Maryland. Populated by comical caricatures of the county's residents, Yardley both mocks and celebrates its history. Many of these vignettes illustrate historical events, such as the county's founding, its involvement in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the American Civil War. Baltimore itself does not appear on the map since it was separated from the county in 1851. PRICE: 750.00 USD

The Three cities of Wuhan: Hankou, Hanyang, Wuhan.

A rare Japanese-issued October 1939 view of Wuhan drawn by Tsunemitsu Kaneko and issued in Shanghai by Zhiseitang. The view looks northwest on Wuhan, from a fictional high point far to the southeast, across the Yangtze River. The focus is the foreign concessions in the Hankou / Hankow district, but Wuchang and Hanyang are also represented. Full coverage extends west along the Yangtze as far as Chongqing, and east as far as Shanghai. PRICE: 650.00 USD

This is a rare 1538 map of Greece and the region surrounding Constantinople, executed by Sebastian Münster for inclusion in his edition of Solinus' Polyhistor . This is an 1892 U.S. Army Quartermaster General railroad map of the United States owned by Army Colonel David Dougall Van Valzah while he was in command of a Buffalo Soldier infantry regiment in New Mexico. The map depicts most of the continental United States from the Pacific Ocean to Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York and from Canada to Mexico. This is a 1952 Hagstrom map of Florida. Created as a promotional piece for Silver Springs, a tourist attraction outside Ocala, Florida, a large red 'arrow' emphasizes Silver Springs' location in central Florida. U.S. highways are illustrated in red and four highways pass through Ocala, highlighting how easy it would be for travelers to stop at Silver Springs on their way to their final destination or on their way home. This is an 1853 Adam and Charles Black map of New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia, Australia. Updated because of intense interest surrounding the Australian Gold Rush, the region's gold deposits are highlighted in yellow. Twenty counties in New South Wales are numerically identified and correspond to a reference situated in the lower right corner. A handful of counties appear in South Australia around Adelaide and St. Vincent Gulf. PRICE: 150.00 USD

We are generalist antiquarians dealing in historic maps from all over the world and in all price ranges. Our enthusiasm, passion and devotion to scholarship is expressed in our meticulously researched studies of each map offering.  
Geographicus welcomes clients by appointment at our Brooklyn location.  Our hours are Noon to 6PM Monday through Friday, but other appointments, including evenings and weekends, are typically available on request.

We are located in the ground floor of a limestone townhouse in the historic Stuyvesant Heights district of Brooklyn.  The closest subway stop is Gates Avenue on the J train.  Commuting time is about 20 minutes from the Financial District.
