Greetings from the Bold South:

No, that's not a misprint. My family and I have decided to spend a few weeks in sunny Florida, away from the premature winter encroaching on our Minnesota autumn. We can do our remote work and schooling from anywhere, and we're pleased to be enjoying a change of scenery after being largely homebound this year, thanks to the pandemic. The post-election peace is also welcome. Of course, it's not all sunshine and palm trees. Those of you who live down this way are familiar with a couple of uniquely tropical hazards. First of all, we've dealt with Tropical Storm Eta, which thankfully hasn't caused much damage or even inconvenience here on Sanibel Island. And, the other day I was walking in a nearby nature area and nearly tripped over a huge tail sitting on the path. Those of you who are aware of my (lack of) fondness for gators, and reptiles in general, will have no trouble imagining my reaction as I set the world land speed-walking record back to the parking lot.

What I'm Working On:
I finished up my round of promotional events following the release of Deadfall, including a virtual launch event at Once Upon a Crime, and appearances at the Deep River Book Festival. I was also involved in the launch of the new anthology, Minnesota Not So Nice, which includes my story, The A to Z Solution. Now, it's back to work on the next Pen Wilkinson thriller, tentatively titled Northfall. I've completed the first draft, and am now finding the time to work on a new standalone thriller. It will be my first non-Pen Wilkinson story in more than fifteen years, and I'm excited about it. Stay tuned for details.

Happy Holidays!
Next month, I'll be providing a special treat for my newsletter subscribers (that would be you). I'll be including a free copy of my Pen Wilkinson holiday-themed short story, Mounds Bars, which appeared in two collections of culinary short stories edited by my friend Rhonda Gilliland. It's my way of saying thanks to all of my loyal readers. Watch for your copy in mid-December.

What I'm Reading:
This month I finished Cloud Warriors, the superb paranormal-tinged thriller by Rob Jung, who was also kind enough to interview me for my virtual launch event (and covered nicely when my Internet failed in the middle of the interview). I also read Phil Donlay's Speed the Dawn, and am currently working on my friend Wendy Webb's paranormal thriller The Haunting of Brynn Wilder.

What Are You Reading?
My readers and I are always looking for good recommendations. Let us know what you're reading these days.
