Register now for our upcoming webinar - Families and food: Identifying and responding to food insecurity

This webinar will explore common causes of food insecurity and what works when identifying and responding to it. Building on a recent CFCA practice guide, it will:
  • Explore research evidence on the link between financial hardship and food insecurity
  • Share insights into the impact of COVID-19 on socio-economic status and food security
  • Consider what works in responding to food insecurity, particularly in a COVID-19 context
  • Identify practical strategies such as the use of screening questions for identifying food insecure families.
This event will be of interest to professionals working in child and family support, health, emergency relief and material aid, social services, local government and in rural and remote settings.

We encourage you to test your system before the webinar, and read our Frequently Asked Questions.

PESRAC Survey - Increasing Male Participation Rates

This is the final week that The Tasmania Project PESRAC survey is live.  We would very much appreciate your help to give Tasmanians a voice on their priorities for COVID-19 recovery. To date, the survey has received 2498 responses, but men are an underrepresented voice thus far. Only 31% of the survey participants identify as male.

This is an opportunity for all Tasmanians and it would be great to have a truly representative sample to provide the Premier’s Economic and Social Recovery Action Committee to inform the State’s planning and policy for recovery.

The survey is due to close this Sunday (15 November).

We hope that in the next stage of The Tasmania Project that we will be able to secure research funding for activities that can broaden participation in the project and look forward to further engaging with you on that journey.

Findings from the survey (including details of the methodology and sample) will be posted to The Tasmania Project website

Raise The Rate For Good

The holiday season is fast approaching and right now our politicians are deciding the future of JobSeeker and other income support payments, with an announcement likely in late November. That gives us just over two weeks to make our voices heard.

Will you send a holiday card with a personal message to Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston, telling them why we need a permanent and adequate increase to income support? Fill in the form and your message will be printed onto a card specially designed by one of our grassroots supporters, Cassie Francisco, and sent in the post to the key decision-makers.

We need your help to remind our political leaders that people’s struggles won’t get any easier on 1 January and we need a permanent adequate increase that ensures people on JobSeeker, Youth Allowance and other income support payments can cover the basics they need, including housing.

Whether you receive JobSeeker Payment, Youth Allowance or another form of income support, were previously on income support, or are a family member or friend of someone who has had to get by on such a low income, let our government know that we need to Raise the Rate For Good.
