Homicide #42 CORRECTION

Arrested:    Alberto Torres, Hispanic male, 31
                    Modesto Hernandez, Hispanic male, 30
 
On Friday, November 6, 2020, at approximately 5:06 p.m., Austin 911 received a report of shots fired at a car dealership located at 11320 FM 2222. Upon arrival, officers located two men with gunshot wounds and detained a third, Modesto Hernandez. Austin-Travis County EMS transported Alberto Torres to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The second male, Jerry Paul Lee, was pronounced on scene.
 
APD homicide investigators and crime scene personnel processed the scene and spoke with Modesto Hernandez. In the course of that conversation, detectives learned that he and Alberto Torres went to the dealership with the intention of stealing a car. During that attempt, a gun fight ensued between Torres and the manager of the dealership. The manager shot Torres multiple times. Torres shot Jerry Lee, a dealership employee.

Alberto Torres and Modesto Hernandez have been arrested and charged with capital murder. They each of a bond of one million dollars. Hernandez was booked into the Travis County Jail. Torres remains in critical condition.
 
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office ruled the manner of death homicide as a result of gunshot wounds.
 
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
