Faculty and Staff Christmas Dinner is Friday
There has been a great response for this year’s Faculty and Staff Christmas Dinner which takes place Friday, Dec. 2 in Founders’ Hall. Seating begins at 5:30 p.m. and a traditional Christmas buffet will begin serving at 6 p.m. After dinner, make plans to attend Lessons and Carols, another holiday tradition that begins at 7:30 p.m. in Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center.

New Staff Council
At its October meeting, the board of trustees unanimously supported the formation of a staff council and the appointment of a staff representative to the board. The purpose for creating this council is to not only provide staff with board representation, it is also to facilitate a greater sense of involvement and communication and to foster a culture of trust between the staff, faculty, administration and Board. This initial organizational meeting is open to any interested staff (defined as employees below director level) and is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Teter Hall. Videoconferencing will be available for all learning centers. This first meeting will be key to determining the level of interest and involvement among staff eligible to participate and to discuss a suggested first-year agenda, as well. This is an exciting year of transition and the opportunity and momentum for change is tangible. Become a part of helping to make this new level of staff involvement meaningful.

Christmas/New Year’s break:
Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 through Monday, Jan. 2, 2012; university offices will close at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, and offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012.

Making Christmas bright around the world
Southern Wesleyan University students and staff donated 75 boxes for Operation Christmas Child. This means that at least 75 children in the world will have a great Christmas and the opportunity to hear about the love of Jesus. Sponsors are still needed for some of the shoe boxes that were packed during the packing party. It costs $7 to help get these boxes shipped around the world to these children in need. If interested in doing this, go online to donate.

Beyond Breakfast
Beyond Breakfast
On Friday, Nov. 18, the Admissions Department hosted Beyond Breakfast, a campus preview event for prospective students and their guests. More than a hundred guests attended the event, which began with a buffet breakfast served in Founders’ Hall by Aramark. Following breakfast, Dr. Todd Voss, Dr. Keith Iddings, Dr. Joe Brockinton, Kim Jenerette, Coach Charles Wimphrie and Cory Truax made presentations highlighting the many benefits of Southern Wesleyan. Campus tours were led by SWU’s Presidential Ambassadors and each prospective student was given a SWU t-shirt. The Admissions Department is grateful to each faculty and staff member who helped to make this event a success. Over one hundred guests were in attendance. “We praise God for the good attendance and for the beautiful weather for campus tours,” said Melissa Vess, assistant director of admissions. The next Beyond Breakfast event is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17, 2012.
