Welcome to Patch Tuesday for November 2020

It's that time again. Please leave your PC(s) powered on tonight so security updates from Microsoft will be downloaded to your PC around 3:00 a.m. (Make sure you have configured it to avoid hibernation and sleep modes when idle, and while plugged in.) This can be adjusted with the power settings icon in the Control Panel.

Patch Tuesday Forecast

This Patch Tuesday you can expect to see your PC updated to Windows 10 2004. This version of Windows 10 has been quietly installing itself if you've left your PC on for a couple of days. For the most part, it has gone smoothly but does take about an hour or more to install. So, be prepared to provide some time for this update. Expect to see additional updates to the .NET software as well. Otherwise, security patches are rather light this month as we approach the holidays.

To see which version of Windows 10 you have, go to Settings > System > About and scroll to Windows Specifications, where you'll find the edition and version number.

For what it’s worth

While the election is all but over, the holidays are upon us. These are the most lucrative times for hackers to fleece their victims. Above (7 one or two-page cheat sheets) are very easy to digest. These highlight ways to keep yourself from being a victim of these charlatans. Pass this infomation around to your staff, clients, co-workers, and family. We are our best, first-line of defense.

Bear in mind that antivirus, antimalware software, and patching your PC can only do so much. Be wary of the CON artist approach in getting your confidence. Question everything that seems too good to be true. Usually, your sense of that fact should alert you before you become a victim.

Do you know of anyone (friend, family, or employee) who would benefit from this Patch Tuesday Bulletin? It's easy to share the link. Have them go to My-Computer-Friend.com and click on the Subscribe button, or forward this bulletin to them. Help others help themselves.😊

As a reminder, make sure your antivirus and malware software is up to date, and scan your PC to keep you safe. Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday and stay safe and healthy.

Happy Thanksgiving

Gary
