Class of 2023 Guidance Update

November 2020
Report Cards
  • Report cards for the 1st 9 weeks were posted on the Focus Student and Parent Portals on Friday, November 6.
  • For a screenshot of where the report card is located in Focus, please click here.
  • Students should be checking their current grades in Focus at least once per week.
Classroom Visits & My Career Shines
  • Over the last few weeks, I have visited each English 2 classroom to meet with students. Topics discussed include graduation requirements, grades, future careers, and colleges.
  • To check your child's progress towards high school graduation, please check the "Grad Reqs" tab on the left hand menu of your Focus account.
  • If your child was present in class the day I was there, they created an account on the My Career Shines website, which is a great college and career planning tool. The resources on this website include:
    • Assessments that measure students' interests, skills and values related to future careers
    • Database with information about careers
    • Database with information about colleges
    • Resume builder tool
    • "Plan for education" tools
    • "Plan for work" tools
  • Your child also took the Career Interests Assessment, so please feel free to ask them about their results!
Dual Enrollment
  • Dual enrollment is a program that allows students to take college classes at PSC or UWF, while remaining enrolled at BTWHS.
  • Dual enrollment students must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA and qualifying test scores on the PERT, SAT or ACT.
  • At the end of this semester, I will send a Dual Enrollment Interest Form to all sophomores that have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or above. Based on the amount of student interest, I will either give the PERT test at BTWHS, or arrange a time for students to be tested at PSC. Testing will take place at the beginning of spring semester.
  • Once your child has the qualifying GPA and test scores, more instructions will be provided for registration at their chosen school. Qualifying students will be able to start taking dual enrollment classes in summer or fall 2021.
  • Stay tuned for more information about a virtual Dual Enrollment Parent Meeting, to be held during the spring semester.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns! Email is the best way to get in touch with me (eglidden@ecsdfl.us), but I will also return phone calls as soon as I can (475-5257 ext 233).
