Hello Partners!

Not long ago, I had an opportunity to lead a Zoom seminar with 20 pastors from one church (yes, a very large church!) on the topic of heart idols and blind spots.

Of course, something becomes an idol when we value it (or even a person) more than we value Jesus as our ultimate source of joy and satisfaction. As we know, Jesus wants all of our love and devotion: "And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." Mark 12:30 (ESV)

During the seminar, we discussed how each of us has a propensity to take good things in life and elevate them to ultimate things. It's positive when we recognize this, but often times we don't. Why? Because they're blind spots. We all have those. Every person. Every leader. Every pastor.

Perhaps more than any other season of life, it seems a season of difficulty or crisis can expose our heart idols and our blind spots. That's been true for me personally. I've also been amazed at how God has used this pandemic season to provide me with unparalleled invitations from pastors to journey with them as they courageously and humbly seek to recognize, confess and release the grip on their heart idols.

This has been sobering. Though, it's also been exciting because I know the hearts of these pastors will be in a much healthier place with Jesus and their families as a result. Further, when a pastor is healthy in this way, their church has a far better chance of being healthy as well.

Thank you for continuing to love, support and pray for the heart of your pastor(s) in this ongoing season of crisis!

Grace & Peace,

Wade
