Hello and best wishes from our team here in snowy Saskatoon. Winter has arrived, and that has us thinking about some important dates in the University of Saskatchewan (USask) calendar and related need-to-know information.

In this update:

  • December 1 application and document deadline for:
    • early admission to certain programs
    • Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships
  • Education info sessions
  • Residence applications open
  • Schulich Leader Scholarships nomination deadline
  • Most university services closed Dec. 19-Jan. 3

December 1 application and document deadline

December 1 is an important application deadline in the USask calendar.

It is the deadline to apply and submit required supplemental items to be considered for early admission for 2021-2022 for these programs:

December 1 is also the deadline for entering students to apply for admission to any direct-entry program and submit required supplemental items in order to be eligible to apply for Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships.

Submitting transcripts

With changes to high school schedules now in place in many regions, counsellors have been asking if there is any change to when students should submit required supplemental items, including transcripts.

International and out-of-province students should always upload their most up-to-date transcript or report card as soon as possible after applying, and continue to check their application online to learn if other supplemental items are required.

Students in Saskatchewan high schools should continue to request transcripts to be sent directly to USask by the Ministry of Education three times: 1) as soon as possible; 2) after January exams 2021; and 3) after June exams 2021. Students can request transcripts to be sent at the end of each quint, though the Admissions Office will not be re-evaluating students' applications every time they are received outside of the usual evaluation periods.

Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships

Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships include some of USask's highest valued renewable entrance scholarships. Selection criteria for these awards include academic achievement and/or leadership and contributions to school and community life, and values range from $12,000 ($3,000/year over four years) to $40,000 ($10,000/year over four years).

Five of these awards are set aside to be preferentially awarded as Circle of Honour awards, which are designated for Indigenous students.

To be considered, applicants must apply for admission and submit required supplemental items such as transcripts by December 1.

Applicants will then gain access to USask's web portal, PAWS, where they can find and submit the application for Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships, including short- and long-answer questions for some awards, by December 15.

Residence applications open

Applications to live in Residence at USask in Fall 2021 are now open. Students should apply to live in Residence as early as possible. Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of students' admission status.

We will only be welcoming students back when it is safe to do so; however, students are encouraged to apply as we are planning and hoping to open under “normal” operations in the fall.

Benefits of Residence

Residences at USask provide an unparalleled living environment for students. Students will be part of a diverse and global community where they can create friendships and stay connected with other students. Residence offers a safe, study-oriented setting, access to nutritious and delicious dining options and continuous academic and personal support to help contribute to students' success.
