This section contains relevant resources for BSOs and those who fund entrepreneurship, some being applicable to small businesses. Last week we shared COVID-19 resource collections. TechTown Detroit has expanded their 313 STRONG practical assistance program 

TechTown provides resources, collaborative workspaces, and education for entrepreneurs and small businesses that will further accelerate inclusive economic development across Detroit.

313 STRONG is a customized support program for brick and mortar, small businesses in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park neighborhoods. Whether you have remained open, reopened or are determining how to best move your business forward, 313 STRONG is here to help. TechTown’s staff of skilled professionals will provide one-on-one coaching to help business owners understand, sustain, and strengthen operations in neighborhood commercial districts.

How to get started:

  1. Complete the 313 STRONG interest form 

  2. Attend initial meeting to learn how the program can benefit your business 

  3. Complete intake form and sign participation agreement 

  4. Meet with your 313 STRONG Coach

Open Detroit has been extended into the winter months

Detroit Means Business, an online resource hub and coalition from the City of Detroit, is committed to providing Detroit’s small businesses access to essential tools to prepare them to operate safely and successfully.

The City of Detroit has implemented restart programs to help small businesses reopen safely. One of these programs is Open Detroit, which provides a streamlined process and free permitting to allow restaurants to operate outdoors. 

Read the Open Detroit Winter Edition and check out all of the reopening resources on Detroit Means Business. To speak to a team member, the Safe Reopening Call Center is open to take calls M-F 9 a.m. to 5 p.m at (844) 333-8249.

Celebrate Global Detroit's 10 years of impact

Global Detroit is a regional economic development and community development organization. With a focus on immigrants and global talent, they develop and implement inclusive strategies to drive the growth, revitalization and prosperity of Detroit and Southeast Michigan.

A decade ago, the Global Detroit Study revealed that welcoming immigrants is a powerful driver of economic growth in Southeast Michigan. Global Detroit recently celebrated 10 years of building a vibrant, inclusive Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Congratulations to Global Detroit!

In the space of entrepreneurship, Global Detroit helps connect small business owners in Detroit’s immigrant neighborhoods to funding opportunities and resources in the city. Their team works to break down the barriers of knowing what support and opportunities exist by providing connections to expert assistance, training, funding and other support.

SCORE has been hosting free, LIVE webinars every week on small business tips and strategies. See their upcoming offerings on their website.

The Michigan SBDC has been hosting informational webinars. Watch past recordings and register for upcoming small business support webinars.  

The University of Michigan's "Free Accounting Fridays" program is available to help you with accounting/finance concerns (profit and loss statements, cash flow analysis, balance sheets, etc.) and consult on the various loan/grant opportunities related to COVID-19 and help prepare applications. You can make appointments here.
