News from WORK:

We made it! We are settling into our new headquarters at our Uptown location and saying a sad farewell to our Downtown space. The books from our beloved library are finding new homes on the shelves throughout Uptown (this time, being categorized by topic, not color, which has proven to be more labor-intensive ;) and our favorite vintage furniture finds have tagged along for the ride. The faux fireplaces are keeping us cozy and the classic WORK soundtrack plays in the lobby.

What's more, our event schedule keeps on rolling. We've got our signature social gatherings and educational classes now adapted to Zoom, but still as vibrant and valuable as ever. We miss seeing you all in real life, but we can also appreciate the advantages of the digital medium, allowing us to show up even when we're far away and allowing us to show off random objects, like our favorite coffee mugs and tea cups (see TEA SOCIAL below). We adapt, and life goes on...

Thank you for sticking with us, through thick and thin.

With much love and appreciation,

Natasha

TWO UPCOMING FORUMS:
(Join their mailing list to get all their events.)
KBYG FORUM: Making a Plan to Explore General Plan Issues
Wednesday, November 11th at 7:00 PM

Petaluma will soon begin a periodic General Plan update.  Those appointed to the General Plan Advisory Committee and those who attend their meetings will have a once-in-twenty-year window to have a voice in plotting Petaluma's long-term future.

KBYG will host a series of forums, beginning in January, on the General Plan topics.  The goal is to create a knowledgeable public who can productively affect the General Plan.

The plan is to meet, via Zoom, on the fourth Wednesday of every month.  Each meeting will have a speaker on the monthly topic.  Possible reading and watching materials will be provided.  Participants will be encouraged to sample the materials prior to meeting.

Possible monthly topics could include:
  • Sprawl versus compact development
  • Responding to a changing climate
  • Zoning
  • Affordable housing
  • Market rate housing
  • Transit-oriented development
  • Creating full-service neighborhoods
  • Fairgrounds
  • The changing role of retail
  • The future of office space
  • Achieving a job/housing balance
  • Overall transportation systems
  • Automobile traffic
  • Bicycle networks
  • Walkability
  • Parking
  • Transit
But these topics don't exist in vacuums.  Each forum will also provide context, setting forth how the forum topic(s) relates to climate action, municipal finances, social justice, and other overarching issues.

The November 11th meeting will have three goals:
  1. Input on the topic list above.
  2. Thoughts for study materials.
  3. Building a participant list.  The goal is to have a core of people who participate nearly every month so that the conversations can build upon previous knowledge.  If at least 30 people, and hopefully more, participate regularly, we'll have a depth of personal experiences from which we can all learn.

KBYG FORUM: Meridian at Corona Station - A First Look
Wednesday, November 18th at 7:30 PM

Danco Builders will present their vision for Meridian at Corona Station, the replacement for the previous Corona Station configuration that inflamed community passions and became an issue in the recently concluded City Council race.

Join to talk about how the new plan might better meet community needs.
