A recent design change at …

The wonderful salon….Techniks Hair Studio & Spa

When you think about renovations you may think that there are going to be major changes, but that is not always true.  Not all changes are huge!  Sometimes it’s the small things that matter…especially with space planning.

In this case, the customer would enter the door and be seated immediately to the right of the door, and against the windows.  This put them directly across from the service desk, with the product off to the far right.

With the desk right in front of you it’s like ‘putting up a fence’ that say’s “don’t touch”.  It’s intimidating! Customers will be hesitant & uncomfortable handling the product and that doesn’t bode well for those add-on sales.

The seating stayed in the same place, but the desk and the product shelving were switched, including the name, which was salvaged and placed over the new desk position. The wallpaper was removed and the wall painted. The desk top was changed to a quartz-stone product as the raw edge wasn’t standing up.

Two other good things that happened during this change were that the stylist at the desk can now see into the back area of the salon and secondly, there was a lot more room between the seating and the product wall.

Small design changes can often make large differences!

CHAMPAGNE & LACE BRIDAL

Every now and then we get wonderful surprises in our lives. Here’s mine!

For about ten years I drove once a month out to Abbotsford to do the window displays at Champagne & Lace Bridal, then owned by the remarkable Gerry Charles!  I loved the hour’s peaceful drive. I loved the work and the people who worked there, one of whom was the manager Robynn MacFarlane - now the OWNER.

Last week I drove out to Abbotsford to have dinner with my son Anthony and his wife Mindy who was celebrating her birthday. I arrived earlier than I thought, so decided to drive a few blocks to see the window displays at Champagne & Lace. The store was closed. I got out of the truck, took some wonderful photos, and as I got back to the truck I noticed someone working in the windows…Robyn!  I was so excited to see her.  There she was doing her own windows!

When you work in display with clients you really get to know and love them.  It was just the loveliest moment to see her and to know that she and her business are doing well. Below are a few photos from that evening.
