Deanna Lee's Studio News

Dear friends, family members, and acquaintances,

I hope that this letter finds you well and safe. During these tumultuous times, I have been heartened and inspired by so many people who put forth their best efforts toward making things better for as many others as possible.
Some of these people are fellow artists, who have been creating projects to grow and strengthen communities, and here are some of the recent ones with which I am honored to be involved.

At the Re Institute in rural Millerton, New York, under the direction of Henry Klimowicz, the outdoor exhibition "Together in Isolation" features illuminated artworks that have been embedded in the ground.

Best viewed after dark, the show is open through November 13 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 5:00pm to 6:15pm.
After November 14, the exhibition will go into hibernation until mid-March 2021.

This page is about my work "Cloud Weeds" in the show:

Being invited to participate in this project inspired me to make the new work from remnants (called the "weeds") of my 2014 cut-paper sculpture, "Cloud" (shown below).
"Cloud" was produced as a limited-edition multiple, of which a number are still available for $100 each.
Let me know if you are interested!

I am very pleased that two of my AWGP paintings are featured in "With the Grain," an exhibition inspired by artists' use of wood grain, curated by Patricia Fabricant, on view through November 28, 2020, at Equity Gallery, 245 Broome Street, New York, NY 10002.

The online exhibition "Streaming" was organized by Mike Childs and Melissa Staiger and inspired me to complete several works on paper that I had begun in 2017, following my residency experiences in southern Mexico and New Brunswick, Canada.

I am tickled that my short essay, “Interpreting natural structures and systems through visual traces,” about the relationship of math to my art, was published in a special edition of the Journal of Mathematics and the Arts, featuring artist statements, available for free online through 2020.

In 2011 and 2019, I exhibited my work at the Lake George Arts Project in upstate New York.
These opportunities allowed me to make new paintings for both exhibitions and led to meaningful developments in my work.

The Collector’s Club is an initiative to support the Project and artists affiliated with it and features works from my 2018 "Foram Facet" series.

Artworks can be viewed and purchased from either the digital catalog or the online store.
Please take a look!

During the summer, I participated in a few mail-art projects initiated by fellow artists, including the expanding USPS Art Project, created by Christina Massey. Four works that I made in collaboration with Liz Sweibel and Lisa Kellner were included in two exhibitions that featured collaborations by the project's participating artists.

Other exciting recent postal-service news is the availability of stamps that commemorate the artist Ruth Asawa, whose life and work are significant inspirations for me. I stocked up!

I am always interested in mail-based projects. Please let me know if you would like to join me in a project, by collaborating on the creation of artworks or simply exchanging small, mailable works of art.

Please feel free to reach out---with questions, comments, status reports, outbursts---in words or images or whatever method feels right.
I would love to hear from you.
Thanks for your continued interest and support, please keep in touch, and stay well.

With fond regards,

Deanna
