President’s Letter
I hope everyone’s fall is off to a great start. It certainly appears to be for our chapter! Sue-Ellen Sanders and I attended the first FPRA state board meeting of the year this past weekend. Zoom has made it easier for representatives from all over the state to get together at these meetings and to share plans for the future.
It’s good to bounce ideas off other state members and get a glimpse into what other chapters are up to. It seems like everyone is in the same boat in trying to figure out when the best time will be to return to in-person meetings. For our chapter, the board has decided to keep the next two months virtual and then see if we could possibly do an in-person meeting in January. We’ll keep you posted!

Thank you to everyone who has renewed their membership this year. As of Nov. 3, the Treasure Coast chapter had reached 71 percent renewed. That’s great news! If you haven’t renewed yet, please submit your forms soon so you don’t lose out on any of the excellent benefits of being a part of this association.

Speaking of those benefits…our November meeting and professional development event is coming up on Tuesday, Nov 17, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. Please plan to join us to learn the ins and outs of Facebook events with Iris Estrada-Jones, social media specialist with Clear SEM Solutions. Sign up here. And remember, Chapter members can prepay for the entire year of events and you will get one month for free! If you want to take advantage of that offer, you can sign up here.
I hope to see you on Nov. 17. Have a great month!

Have a great month!

APR Update from the state:
The UAB has extended APR candidates with expiration dates during the pandemic (those with deadlines for March 31 through June 30).  Prometric sites were closed and candidates could not complete the process. They are now open and candidates have the opportunity to take the examination either in a test site or remotely (at home with a personal computer).

The UAB’s regular extension policy is still available. Candidates can obtain a six-month extension if Advanced from the Panel Presentation process.  Candidates who have not been Advanced from Panel Presentation must reapply. If a candidate wishes and extension, send a written request accompanied by a check (made payable to PRSA) or credit card payment (with expiration date) in the amount of $50.00 (US funds only) to:

Accreditation Administration
c/o Public Relations Society of America
120 Wall Street, 21st Floor
New York, NY 10005

Extensions must be received before the application expiration date.

If candidates have a special circumstance, they should email Kathy Mulvihill, Sr. Accreditation Manager at PRSA and she will bring it up to the UAB for consideration. (Kathy.Mulvihill@prsa.org)
Are you looking for a way to become more involved with FPRA while honing your leadership skills? Leadership FPRA may be the answer. The state recently announced it has extended the application deadline until Dec. 1. The first session begins in January and is virtual, but the following monthly sessions are planned to be in person.
