VITA 6.2 is here!
This update will be live on November 30, 2020
With the 6.2 version upgrade, we've added some new features and third-party applications, as well as revising the software code for increased security. All documentation has been updated. Read on for more details...

The upgrade will take place automatically on Monday, November 30, 2020. Short restart cycles will be the only noticeable interference during that morning while the upgrade is underway. Contact help@vitatoolkit.ca for updates.

Timeline Feature

A new interactive timeline is now available through the Exhibits module!

Choose the timeline layout, add items from your collections, their dates, other text as needed, and then display it as part of an exhibit or embed the timeline in other spaces!

See this timeline about Agnes Macphail, first woman elected to Canadian Parliament.

IIIF viewer

In keeping with today's international standards and to present a more consistent display for multipage items, VITA now uses an IIIF viewer for all Pages and JP2 files. Now, the pan-zoom and rotate options will apply to any Page file and to JPEG2000s in other display spaces.

Default graphic choices

For records without a file, we have added the option to select a new set of default graphics for your results sets. In addition to the classic default graphics set, you can choose a modern multi-colour version, a modern monochrome set, or a coloured set to match your styling.

VITA Search API for catalogues

VITA APIReturn search results from your VITA collection from within your Library or other catalogue system.

You can create simple and complex queries with different outputs. Use our templates to scope your catalogue search queries to return keyword, title, author/creator name, or subject heading results and have them returned in Dublin Core, MODS, RSS format & more.

(See the Search API instruction manual)

User Contributions - contributors can now rotate their image files before submitting them through the contribution module  - great for those wonky cell phone submissions - and your agency can decide whether to keep the original and/or just the rotated version.

Metadata Application Profile - The VITA Toolkit MAP is up to date and reflects the last versions' field updates, with extra details around copyright and Creative Commons.

Groups - a bug has been fixed so that non-public groups will not be listed in your public advanced search and facet panels; as well, any site that is scoped to a Group (like 1812 History) will not display it's defining group in the advanced search, sidebars or facet panels.

Increased security - all sites will be redirected to new https (secure) URLs with this upgrade. This will happen automatically. Consider this when adding any links to an HTML block within VITA as well as external images for exhibits, and external links, featured links, and image URLs for these links.
