Dear friends

An update on our latest project – please do join in!

WHAT IS THE PROJECT?
Our latest project is Creating Connections. We are inviting anyone under 11 and over 50 to write letters. This wellbeing-focused project engages young children and older citizens in the SE9 area to create a dialogue through letter writing. More information on our website.

Many thanks to all who have joined in with sending letters and also encouraging and promoting the project in so many ways.

WHAT’S HAPPENED SO FAR?
Some wonderful letters have been coming in from our older citizens to our primary school children – evocative tales of  living in Eltham, lost and found and remarkable nature are just some of the themes cropping up in the letters.

We held a successful online workshop for older members  - thank you to all those who attended.

Want to read some of the letters sent in? Head over to our website for a selection from older members and from the young children – scroll down the article to reach them.  More are being uploaded each week.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW?
 ●  Our primary schoolchildren are enjoying reading the letters sent to them so far by our older (50+) people. They are now responding to them - writing back and also creating some fantastic shadow puppetry stories inspired by them.

● More letters are coming in all the time and being passed on to our local primary school children.

● Letter reading days for our older (50+) participants start from next week – on 1,8,15 Dec - please see below.

● Our older letter writers are receiving replies from our youngsters and considering responding.

HOW CAN YOU TAKE PART?
We are still inviting letters from both generations.

Time to write. Please consider writing a letter to a schoolchild – it’s all anonymised and sent through Eltham Arts. You could handwrite or type it. Then hand it at the library or email it to us:
Email to info@elthamarts.org
By post at Eltham Library, Archery Rd, Eltham, London SE9 1HA
Post it physically into “Ted” – the hungry letterbox in the library!
In an era of emails and snapschats, the children are thrilled to receive them! More information on our website.

Listen to a letter! We want to reach to everybody. If you know someone who does not have digital access, then they can join in with a letter reading session being delivered by Eltham library. These are being held on 1, 8, 15 December between 12 and 3pm. So, if you know anyone in your neighbourhood or a friend or someone in your family who would like to listen to a letter from a young person being read by our fantastic library staff, then please let them know.
All you have to do is call the library between 12 and 3pm on 1, 8, or 15 December and they can have a letter read to them. Contact: 020 8921 3452

Free Teacher Resources!  If you are connected to a primary school in SE9 there is still time to participate. It makes an excellent class activity involving a variety of skills. Our Teachers Letter Writing Toolkit is available to download on our website.
