Alan Mason: "We Are Ready!"
Alan Mason, Managing Director Mason's Travel

For hundreds of years our remote island nation had remained untouched and unexplored, serving as an important haven for migratory birds and animals that thrived in this protected environment. In 2020, the same can be said of Seychelles by the modern tourism industry: our islands are safe and ready for visitors!

Pioneering the re-launch of Indian Ocean tourism, Seychelles was among the first countries in the region to open their borders to international tourists back in August 2020. Since then, our cautious observations have shown that the steps taken to keep our clients and population safe, while engaging in economic activity and providing an authentic island experience, have been a resounding success. With the guidance of the Department of Health, WHO and local tourism stakeholders,  we have used this period to develop our teams and reassess our operations. We are confident that now - more than ever - Seychelles is a safe, world-class holiday destination.

We are ready for the world to experience Seychelles: our home, your sanctuary.

Hawksbill Nesting Season at Denis Island

In most parts of the world, the end of the year is associated with festive celebrations, holidays and time spent with family - at Denis Private Island, it is associated with the Hawksbill turtle nesting season!

Both Green and Hawksbill turtles nest on the protected shores of this island haven in Seychelles' northern territory. However, the critically endangered Hawsbill turtle has a shorter nesting season, falling between October and February. Nesting turtles are monitored and tagged by Denis Island's conversation team, providing valuable information to assist in the protection of the species. Guests of the hotel are welcome to participate in daily nest patrols and may be lucky enough to sight a turtle coming ashore to nest.
Tiny turtle hatchlings (about 120 per nest) emerge after a two month incubation period, making December to March the best time to spot this incredible phenomenon!
