Kidney Check project receives international recognition

The Can-SOLVE CKD Kidney Check project is one of three global winners of the 2020 UNIVANTS of Healthcare Excellence Award. The award recognizes multidisciplinary teams challenging traditional thought with innovative problem solving. Kidney Check was recognized for its innovative model which brings point-of-care screening for kidney disease and related conditions to Indigenous communities in three provinces.

Reducing the pill burden for dialysis patients

People receiving dialysis take an average of 12 medications per day, up to 70 per cent of which may be inappropriate. A Can-SOLVE CKD research project, STOP Med-HD, has created a new clinical tool that doctors can use to reduce the number of medications prescribed for dialysis patients.

CANADIAN CKD CLINIC NETWORK

Webinar: How have CKD programs and clinics adopted virtual care?

On November 19, the Canadian CKD Clinic Network hosted a webinar highlighting adaptations made to kidney care due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Claudio Rigatto shared Manitoba's experience with virtual care, and Mary Beaucage and Susan McKenzie discussed how the Transplant Ambassador Program has pivoted to a virtual model that responds to patient needs in the wake of COVID-19.

Canadian Patient Partner Study

This online survey will provide a key source of data to improve understanding of the origins and motivations, defining features, experiences and contributions of the patient partner and advisor role in the Canadian health system.

The survey is available in both English and French and should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

New resources to help choose treatment options 

A new video and infographic can help patients understand their kidney disease treatment options and choose the ones that best fit their lives. The resources were developed by a patient advisory group and multidisciplinary team at the University of Calgary.
