NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEAD TEACHER - Mrs Gail Holmes
Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, thank you very much to our amazing PTFA for funding new levelled reading books. The PTFA have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, fundraising for essential resources in school such as reading books. We really do appreciate the time, effort and support our PTFA gives to the school, it does make such a big difference to our children. Thank you.

At Combe Martin School - We Love Reading!

Reading is at the heart of all our learning at Combe Martin School. Over the past couple of years we have been promoting reading and we want our children to have more than the ability to read... we want them to have a love of reading!

Keep up the fantastic home support with reading. It does make such a significant difference to children's progress when you support daily reading at home.

Covid-19 Update
Firstly, thank you for your support to ensure we keep our families, children, staff and our community safe. Currently we have had no children or staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 in school. We have had some families and staff who are self isolating due to contact through test and trace but we have had no children, or staff who have tested positive.

Now we are coming to the end of a national lock down and Devon is in 'Tier 2- High Alert'. It is really important we continue to follow the government guidance. Please click on the link below for further information.

COVID-19 symptoms or general illness?
Below is a reminder of the symptoms to look out for and what you should do if any member of your household display these symptoms.

Main symptoms
The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.

What to do if you have symptoms
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:
  1. Get a test to check if you have coronavirus as soon as possible.
  2. Stay at home and do not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.
Anyone you live with, and anyone in your support bubble, must also stay at home until you get your result.

In addition, any child gaining eligibility for free school meals after 1 April 2018 will be protected against losing free school meals during the Universal Credit rollout period.
Once Universal Credit is fully rolled out, any existing claimants that no longer meet the eligibility criteria at that point (because they are earning above the threshold or are no longer a recipient of Universal Credit) will continue to receive free school meals until the end of their current phase of education (i.e. primary or secondary).

We will be having the flu vaccination team into school during the morning of  Monday 7th December 2020 to see all children between reception and year 6, this will be administered adhering to all up to date Infection Control, PPE and social distancing guidance at the time.

Flu vaccination is one of most effective interventions we have to reduce pressure on the health and social care system which is going to be more important than ever this year.  For this reason, it is essential we deliver the vaccine to as many children as possible to prevent the spread of infection to those most at risk in society.

In light of the above we are expecting demand to be high and therefore we urge you to follow the below link to consent to your child’s vaccination now if you have not already done so. You will also find answers to your FAQ’s on this link.
