Citizens voices help shape Cwm Taf Morgannwg Mental Health Services

The Together for Mental Health Service User and Carer Engagement Survey is aimed at finding out what people know about how mental health services work now and how they might work best in future. We want to hear from anyone and everyone who has in interest in making sure people's voices are heard.

Digital Communities Wales are passionate about reducing digital exclusion and want a Wales where everyone has the skills, access and motivation to be a confident user of digital technology. Dementia Care Grants
Deadline: 5pm 14/12/20.
There are small sized revenue grants of up to £5k supported by the Welsh Government Integrated Care Fund to:

  • combat the loneliness and isolation of people living with dementia, their family and carers
  • prevent unnecessary access to statutory services/support discharge
  • support beneficiary groups to maintain their health, wellbeing and independence
  • help community and voluntary organisations build capacity 
  • reduce the impact of COVID-19

The Great Escape Scheme
Deadline: 18/12/20.
Are you interested in developing a project to involve and work with children and young people to safely access the outdoors either physically or digitally?

Interlink want to support youth-led or intergenerational projects in Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr that find out about how children and young people feel about, access and benefit from the outdoors. There is £1k available for three youth-led or intergenerational projects that take place between 1st January and 31st March 2021.

Vol Factor
Can you answer the following with a yes

  • Do you work with young people? 
  • Do the young people have a project idea? 
  • Do they need funding? 

The Vol Factor could be what those young people need!  A grant to support youth-led volunteering projects.  All the young people have to do is produce a small video or a written submission telling us all about their project idea and what they want to spend the money on.

Organisational Resilience Programme
Deadline: 11/12/20.
Lloyds Bank Foundation is inviting charities in Merthyr Tydfil to join a short programme of three 1 to 1 ½ hour practical workshops in January 2021 to explore organisational resilience. These are free interactive sessions where we identify what organisational resilience means for our own organisations and work together to explore how we can strengthen it to give us the best chance to navigate the uncertainties ahead.

If you are interested in hearing more there will be an introductory session on the 15/12/20, from 2 to 3pm, hosted by Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil.

New Peer Support Groups
In November, New Horizons and MHM Wales launched two new groups:

  • A befriending Zoom group every Tuesday from 10.30am to 12.00pm 
  • A befriending walking group every Friday from 10.30am to 12.00pm at Ynysanghard Park

Talking Therapies for Men
Let’s Talk Men's Mental Health are continuing to break the stigma around men's mental health and are delighted to be able to offer up to 8 free sessions of talking therapies to men who feel like they would benefit from this service. 
They have limited funded spaces but anyone who would like more information please contact them on: ltmmh2018@gmail.com.

They also host a men's only private peer support group which you can join here.
 

Hirwaun YMCA’s Valley Youth Project 
A Mental Health and Well-being project for young people aged 11-24 in the Upper Cynon.

The project has a bi-weekly video on their Facebook page with activities and information on how young people can receive support through the pandemic and things to do locally.

Community Support
Arts Factory are continuing to offer support in their local community and are providing a limited number of free Fareshare food parcels for those who are struggling financially but also have low cost food cupboard essential bags available too. They are also offering support to the Rhondda community by offering advice and guidance on issues including housing and benefits, COVID-19 related support and dealing with loneliness and isolation.

Health and wellbeing sessions have also resumed every Monday and Thursday but are reduced to groups of eight due to pandemic restrictions.

Bereavement Volunteers Needed
Cruse Bereavement Care Wales believe that all bereaved people should have somewhere to turn when grieving the death of a loved one. To help deliver this much needed service they are looking to recruit volunteers who have some regular spare time to give and a desire to be involved.

Young Person’s Mental Health Toolkit
The toolkit is aimed at young people aged 11 to 25, and has six playlists to direct them to a wide range of online resources to help them through the lockdown and beyond. In each of the playlists you'll find self-help websites, apps, helplines, and more that are here to support your mental health and well-being.

BAME Mental Health
Diverse Cymru are a Welsh charity committed to supporting people faced with inequality and discrimination. Diverse Cymru provides support, services and advice to BAME people throughout Wales who are affected by mental ill health and currently deliver training on BAME Mental Health Awareness Raising.

Mental Health and Money Advice
As part of Mental Health UK, Hafal has launched Mental Health and Money Advice. It is the first UK-wide advice service dedicated to supporting people affected by mental health and money issues including carers, friends, families and professionals within the area.

See, Hear, Respond
Barnardo's have secured funding to expand their See, Hear, Respond service in to Wales.

The aim is to reach families below the threshold of statutory intervention so they can be supported before they reach crisis point. Families can access online support and counselling provided by Barnardo’s Cymru, get online advice on a wide range of subjects including how to cope with increased anxieties and be signposted to other specialist services.
