In Between

December - 2020

Help us to access an amazing opportunity

In November, we launched our Annual Fundraising Campaign: In-Between, with the aim of supporting our school to start next year filled with possibilities and opportunities to provide a dignified education to Andean children and youth in the Sacred Valley of Peru.

Now we are thrilled to announce that Kusi Kawsay has received the opportunity to match your donation, dollar for dollar, up to 25,000 USD. This is an amount that has us in tears (of joy) because we know that if you help us reach this goal of receiving the Matching Funds, we will be able to not only provide quality education, but also, change the lives of indigenous children and youth, and enable a brighter and healthy future!

As of today, we have raised 8.400 USD that have already been matched to 16.800 USD. We still need to raise 16.600 USD that will be matched dollar for dollar until we raise the 50,000 USD - our fundraising campaign goal.

December 1st is #GIVING TUESDAY a day devoted to a worldwide manifestation of generosity, so it would be very meaningful if you donate what resonates with your heart, and we can take a step closer to reaching our goal on:

In gratitude for your donation and with high hopes that 2021 will be more tender to all of us, our community has created a beautiful 2021 Kusi Kawsay desktop calendar that will be sent to you.  (Don't forget to include your email address when donating).

An interview with a 4-year old Kusi Kawsay student

Meet Parwa, 4 year old Kusi Kawsay student and her father William. Near Pisaq, where our school is located, is the village of Taray, where Parwa and her family live.  During our conversation, we asked William why his family chose Kusi Kawsay for their children. William says that in Kusi Kawsay teachers give value to their ancient culture and educate children to be independent and to express themselves without fear.

An interview with Suni Sonqo, Kusi Kawsay alumni

Meet Suni Sonqo, a 24 year old former Kusi Kawsay student. He is now studying at the Institute of American Indian Arts in New Mexico but due to the pandemic, he is back home for the time being.  His latest work of art are protection masks featuring felines entities emerging from ancient times to bring us their inner power to be alert and at the same time to protect us.

Regarding his experience as a Kusi Kawsay's student he says

"I think that Kusi Kawsay gave me self-confidence, self-esteem, they taught me to value our culture and the importance of self-worth, and that is important to teach our culture to others.(....) Also the artistic approach of this school helped me to unlock my own inner talent. (...) Kusi Kawsay assisted me to awaken the artistic talent that we all hold....- and - Kusi Kawsay did not teach me with fear, rather with respect and appreciation, with affection toward the Kusi Kawsay community..-
