SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP

God with Us

Rev. Larry Westerveld

We ask our little children, “Where is God?” and expect them to answer, “God is everywhere”.  And then we come to the story of King Solomon building the temple, a house for God. Isn’t it astounding to discover the Lord God of heaven and earth being pleased to live among his people in a house built for him with human hands?

Dr. Ryan Lister, professor of theology at Western Seminary, suggests the notion of God’s omnipresence is the “default category” for most Christians. He goes on to write, “But it seems Scripture is more concerned with his presence manifest in relationship and redemption. And though these divine realities are certainly not at odds, the biblical story does turn on God’s being manifest with his people in Eden, the tabernacle/temple, the incarnation of Christ, and the new heaven and new earth”.

Join us Sunday morning as we enter the Advent season. Join us as we draw near to the God who first drew near to us. Celebrate with us the God who has made his presence known in the person of his Son and in the power of his Spirit.

I Kings 5:1-6:13
Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon when he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, for Hiram always loved David. And Solomon sent word to Hiram, “You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God because of the warfare with which his enemies surrounded him, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet. But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side. Read more...

SUNDAY EVENING WORSHIP

Combating Sin–Facing Temptation

Rev. Allen Curry

This is the time of year when we talk openly about temptation.  Sadly, it most often has to do with eating and drinking. You know what I mean, I’m tempted to have a second piece of pumpkin pie.  Or I cannot have Christmas candy in my house until a couple days before Christmas–It is too much of a temptation.

Temptation is real and it includes more significant matters than what we eat or drink.  This Sunday evening we will look at how to combat sin as we face temptation.

1 Corinthians 10:1-13

For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.  Read more...
