PENK O’DONNELL SCHOOL OF IRISH DANCE
Disappointments started early in the year with St. Patrick’s Day shows cancelled; then the World Championships cancelled; Summer shows all cancelled. It has been a tough year but the Penk O’Donnell Irish Dancers, who range in age from 5-25, are staying positive and enthusiastic.
Disappointments started early in the year with St. Patrick’s Day shows cancelled; then the World Championships cancelled; Summer shows all cancelled.
But we adjusted quickly and had our first class on Zoom on March 16th. Irish dance and Irish music, by their very nature, are upbeat, fun & energetic and online classes gave everyone something positive to look forward to in a difficult year. Our dancers are incredible and came to every class with a ton of energy and willingness to work towards whatever crazy challenge I came up with! It was great when the weather improved in the summer, and we were able to do socially distant classes outside. We attracted a lot of attention practicing on the Centennial High School track!
We were able to do in-person classes briefly in Sept/Oct, but we’re back on zoom now and looking for fun ways to do a Christmas Show online.
Like everyone, we are staying positive and know we will get through this. We all feel lucky that we have Irish Dance to keep us motivated and happy.

THIS WEEK'S
BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
THE KICKS DOCTOR
This week's business spotlight is all about breathing new life into your old trainers and helping the environment in the meantime. We caught up with Warren from The Kicks Doctor.
____________
My name is Warren and I came from the small village of Termonfeckin in Co. Louth to live in Vancouver in 2018. I've always had a keen interest in sneakers (runners), and, in particular, refurbishing old, unwanted sneakers into something new and vibrant. I never saw it as a
business opportunity, but when COVID hit and I was left unemployed, I decided to take a chance and go alone. This was when my hobby turned into a passion.
The sneaker industry has run out of control, with an estimated 20 billion pairs of shoes being produced annually, and roughly 300 million pairs ending up in landfills. Some of the materials used to create sneakers can take up to 1,000 years to decompose. This has very serious impacts on the state of our planet. Your runners can be saved, and we can do it for you. Check out our transformations at @kicksdoctorofficial or kickdoctor.ca
