Thin Ewe FREE PMs 

APHA are looking to recruit farms in England & Wales who would like to investigate the cause of ill thrift in ewes.
They are offering free post mortem examinations of three thin ewes for each farm recruited up to the end of December 2020.
They will check for the “iceberg diseases” OPA, Johnes, Maedi Visna and Border disease in addition to other potential causes of ill thrift and provide a report back to you to share with your farmer client.
The postmortem examination and all subsequent testing will be free of charge.

RUMA Targets Announced
On 18th November 2020 which was European Antibiotic Awareness Day, the new RUMA Targets for the next four years were announced.  

On behalf of the Sheep Antibiotic Guardian Group & the Sheep Veterinary Society, Fiona has been involved in pulling together the sheep section of this report.

It is great to be able to announce that we met our previous target of reducing use of oral antibiotics in lambs - sales fell by 34% between 2016 and 2020. 

Although there is no room for complacency (our ultimate aim is to avoid all routine prophylactic use of antibiotics), this is a great testimony to the hard work & challenging conversations that many sheep vets have been having with their clients.
