First Virtual Student Conference

The Learning Institute's suite of foundation degrees are delivered using a blended learning approach, which combines face-to-face and live online delivery, work-based learning and independent study with two student conferences per academic year.

Last year, our conferences took place in Exeter and Bristol, but this year, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we had to move online and restructure the event for our Level 4 and 5 students.  We asked Kate and Nicolle, two of our student ambassadors, for their views on the event.

Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeships

January 2021 will see the start of our next cohort of Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprentices, following the brilliant success of our most recent group, who all achieved distinctions this summer. If you have a Teaching Assistant who has recently started in post, they could be eligible to join us in January, with funding through the Apprenticeship levy.

Exciting new postgraduate opportunities in Cornwall!

The Learning Institute, working in partnership with Newman University, is delighted to launch two brand new master’s degrees: MA: Inclusion and SEND, and MA: Values-led Leadership.  Both MAs are delivered part time over three years, with a combination of live online delivery and face-to-face sessions at The Learning Institute offices in Roche, offering flexibility for working students.  Both MAs are designed for anyone working in any field of education or training, whose aim is to develop and improve their leadership skills and enhance their professional profile.

Master’s Degree Apprenticeship

There is also the opportunity to combine either of the MAs with The Learning Institute’s Senior Leader Master’s Degree apprenticeship, which would enable students to use their employer’s apprenticeship levy to fund their chosen MA and gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours of strategic leadership.

As one of The Learning Institute's Research Development Groups, Natural Schooling offered a popular workshop at the recent foundation degree student conference, which not only included an overview of the Natural Schooling group but also highlighted the wider support that was available to students and trainees wishing to take their learning outdoors.

How humanistic is our pedagogical approach in Higher Education?

"The tutor or lecturer tends to be more supportive than critical, more understanding than judgmental, more genuine than playing a role." Their job is to foster an engaging environment for the students and ask inquiry-based questions that promote meaningful learning.
