Bendrigg Brings You Campfire Vibes For The 2020 Big Give!

A campfire perfectly symbolises what Bendrigg is all about. It’s warm, it’s welcoming and it brings people together.

Campfires are an important part of a person’s experience at Bendrigg. It gives people the opportunity to reflect and relax after a day of adventures. There’s usually a tasty hot chocolate, marshmallows to toast, stories being told and songs being sung. It really is the perfect way to connect with other people and with nature.

During the Big Give Christmas Challenge, Bendrigg have been sharing videos of songs and stories to help bring those campfire vibes to you all at home, because we know that this year, we've all been more isolated and most of our service users have been shielding for months on end, away from friends and normal activities.

We hope our campfire videos will help to bring a sense of togetherness, warmth and love to your homes throughout the Big Give Week.

A Poem About Bendrigg

Once upon a time in a magical place,
That put a huge smile on many a face.
With canoeing and caving, adventures galore,
It’s all lots of fun, but gives people so much more.

It gives you the confidence, to fly through the sky,
Do everything together, no difference between you and I.
Ability doesn’t matter in a place like this,
A wheelchair in the woods? Absolute bliss.

Seeing people dream, believe and achieve,
Words we hear often, “No, I don’t want to leave”.
Facing your fears, amongst old or new friends,
What better way is there, to spend your weekends?

A song round the campfire, with Rex on his guitar,
If you’re lucky he might sing, a bit of baby shark.
Climbing the wall with Jenny and Stig,
If you get to the top, we’ll do a happy jig.

A day in the Canoes on Lake Windermere,
Playing duckies with Mel and Liz, letting out a big cheer.
After a big day of adventures you need to refuel,
Val, Libby and Steve’s food, will make you drool.

It’s a happy place here, a home from home,
A place with no barriers, you’re free to roam.
To spend time in nature amongst water and trees,
It’s somewhere you’ll feel safe, we’ll put you at ease.

The Bendrigg Family, that’s who we are,
Passion, empathy and care is what’s important by far.
No matter your ability, we see you for you,
It’s truly a place, where dreams can come true.

We miss you all lots and hope you’re ok,
We can’t wait for the day, when you come back to stay.
But until then remember, that Bendrigg is here,
The light in the darkness is beginning to appear.

Access to essential support services have been taken away from many of our visitors and many are feeling nervous about safely returning to public spaces. Bendrigg has been, and will continue to be, the safe space that disabled people need. A place where they can safely come out from the same 4 walls and have much needed time connecting with nature and restoring their mental health and wellbeing along with their family and friends.

Now more than ever, we are reliant on fundraising in order to provide our much needed services.

So please donate before midday on the 8th of December, through our Big Give Christmas Challenge and help to provide the light in the darkness that the pandemic has imposed on so many.

Thank You For Your Support

What Happens If We Reach Our Target of £10,000?

Donations will be doubled up until we reach our target of £10,000. After we hit our target you can still donate and it will still make a difference! Any additional donations will still go towards the subsidy fund helping more disabled people to access adventure but donations will no longer be doubled - if we raise over our target of £10,000 we'll be eligible to enter the Big Give Awards which we won 1st place last year and were awarded a further £3,000!

The more money we raise towards the subsidy fund, the more people we can help!
