WE WISH YOU A SAFE AND PEACEFUL DECEMBER!

We are pleased to have been identified as a Chicago-area organization or community which has collaborated with the faculty of the Global Asian Studies Program at DePaul University in the past and have been invited to become an official community partner with DePaul Global Asian Studies Program. As a community partner, we will be invited to speak at their program events, in classes, or engage in some curricular activities such as community-engagement course projects, or community internships.

We are very excited for this opportunity to speak with our future leaders within the community!

TODAY IS #GIVINGTUESDAY!

As a nonprofit, we rely on donations and sponsorships to fund our programs.

In the past year, we offered a leadership development training program for APA high school students, a diverse panel of Asian American professionals from a variety of industries, a candid conversation with an Asian American Clinical Psychologist, a Twitter conversation on APA mental health, and a collaboration with the Illinois Department of Human Services on career opportunities in social work, counseling, and clinical psychology.

We have three events coming up, including today's Preserving Family Memories, Talk Stories: An Asian American / Asian Diaspora Storytelling Show on December 16, and A Conversation with Asian American Women Restaurateurs on January 14.

In the works are leadership development programs for specific audiences and open to the public, including APA Y-Advocate and APIA U Leadership, leadership development training programs for high school students and college students respectively, MAAP: Mentoring Asian American Professionals, and B3: Build, Breakthrough & Believe, a professional development program for aspiring Asian American and Pacific Islander young professionals.

Your donation will go a long way towards helping us continue to offer programs that benefit, inform, and educate our communities.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT MABEL MENARD:
If you donate via OCA Greater Chicago’s PayPal link from now through tonight 11:59 pm CST, I will match dollar for dollar up to $500.

Preserving Family Memories

TODAY!

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2020 AT 6 PM CST – 7:30 PM CST

OCA Greater Chicago is pleased to welcome Amelia Lin, founder and CEO of Saga, a mobile app for recording and preserving family stories, to talk about her motivation for starting the company for her own mother and father, Amy and Lisan, to record and share their stories.

"Recording their stories has brought our family moments of laughter and nostalgia, sparked new conversations, and brought us closer together. It is my dearest wish that your family will find the same."

Come and hear why preserving family memories is so important for immigrant families and how you can use the platform to share those stories with one another.

Registration is not required. Click here to join the conversation on 12/01 at 6 pm CST.

BellyMelly is a food-ordering platform that brings together restaurants and the communities they’re based in. This unique ecosystem allows customers to place orders from their favorite restaurants and select an organization upon checkout to receive a percentage of the sales.

Restauranteurs know how important community is, and they have partnered with BellyMelly to help the communities they serve.

The next time you are ordering food, please try to do so at BellyMelly.com. You can order from any restaurant, anywhere. When you enter the code OCACHI, a percentage of that sale will come back to OCA Greater Chicago.

Now is your chance for you to shoot your shot to become a presidential appointee! Or for a friend, family member, or anyone you know. We want to make sure the new administration has a large pool of diverse and qualified AAPI candidates to choose from, and we want to make sure our community members and leaders are involved as well!

We are collecting resumes of those interested, and will be flagging it to presidential transition teams. We would like to promote this opportunity to our members and encourage you to submit your applications. We also ask you to please share with other AAPI community members who may be a good fit for a federal appointment.

For more information about the appointment process, types of appointments, and what to expect, please visit the Partnership for Public Service’s “Ready to Serve” website. Please review the previous Plum Books to research listings of former appointee positions, departments, agencies, and desired bureaus to inform your application.

Access the resume bank submission form here.

Applications will be read and reviewed on a rolling basis by the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA). Should your application be selected for further recommendation, we will follow up by contacting you. Please note: submissions do not guarantee an appointee position.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Thu Nguyen or NCAPA and APAICS!
